nausicaa83: (<kingsman> in the mood)
The picture of the day is my dad's old guitar, back from the music store. It had been in storage for fifteen years, but surprisingly it was all right, except obviously for the strings. I had them put new ones on, and it only cost me fifteen euros. They told me the little bone thing at the top (always at hand with the mot juste, aren't I?) will probably need replacing in the near future though. Me, I'm still shocked it wasn't eaten by termites or something like that.

I'll try and play a few chords on it later. Seeing as I've been learning the ukulele for more than a year now, I'll have to re-learn all chords and where my fingers are supposed to go. It's going to be fun. My therapist told me I need to learn to accept and let my anger free, so this is probably going to help with that. :D

In fandom news, we've had some great season finales: both Person of Interest and Once Upon A Time blew my mind, and I'm very excited to see where they're going next. I finally dropped The Vampire Diaries: it's not that I didn't like it anymore, but it was getting really boring, and I hadn't been looking forward to it for quite some time anyway. And with me having a Netflix subscription now there's a lot of shows I want to see and a very limited amount of time to do it, I have to cut my losses. That's why I decided to drop Sleepy Hollow as well: I loved the first season, but never got around to see the second one. I noticed how most reviewers didn't like this new season at all, and then I read an article that they're going to change the show even further next season, and give it a more procedural feel, with the monster of the week and all. That was the end of it for me.

Yesterday's Supernatural episode was kind of meh. Mostly just a bridge to the finale next week. I'm still cautiously trusting them to do the right thing and fix that horrible mess they wrote themselves into with the last episode, but if they don't, and they're actually planning on reversing to the same tired tropes from the first two seasons, well that's it for me, I won't be back for the next season. Again, lots of great shows, too little time to stick to the ones that've disappointed me. But still, there's one episode left, I would be very happy to be proven wrong.

And while I was typing this entry the mailman rang with this little package from Singapore:

It's Eggsy's necklace from Kingsman The Secret Service, and it's amazing. Way better than I dared hope. It's a perfect replica, sturdy, and it looks incredible. Plus it arrived just in time for the release of the movie in digital hd tomorrow. I only watched it once in the cinema two months ago, and ever since I've been dying to experience it in the original language. And now I have my necklace to wear while watching it too! Tomorrow can't come soon enough! ♥

Still having a wonderful time with my aunt, it's great. :D Yesterday we spent the whole evening packing my old tv, and today I called the courier. They'll come by tomorrow morning, and by the next day it should arrive at my aunt's place. This way they'll finally have a Full HD tv, and only for 35 euros, the shipping price. I'm very proud of myself. ^^

Today I could finally see the new Once Upon A Time premiere. I loved it! I love both the new princesses, the way they included their story in the Enchanted Forest, and that new magical item at the end made me squeal like a baby! :D But most of all, I loved this:

Skip to 1:40 to see what I mean. I had tears in my eyes! Oh OTP, you're so lovely!

And then I had a wonderful surprise when the mailman rang, and I had a surprise gift from a magazine I subscribed to a couple of months back. It turns out their gift to new subscribers is a video camera!

It's not the best video camera out there, obviously, but it's a nice one, and should work better than my plain camera at making videos. I can't wait to try it! *_____*

Yesterday I also read a new wonderful book, that kept me awake until 1 am, I just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it to everyone! It's PJ Palacio's Wonder, that couldn't fit in the Reading Bingo but gets a mention here anyway, because it's a fantastic book. It's the story of a kid born with a disease that gives him a "ugly face". We don't get to know what he looks like until much later in the book, but it doesn't really matter: it's a story of disability and how other persons react to persons who aren't "normal". August is a bright kid who starts his first year of school with the fifth grade, and who makes friends, meets bullies, lives life in an environment that can be both hostile and exciting. Some chapters are told by his sister, his friends, and the style adapts to every new narrator. It's a story that doesn't hold back punches but doesn't fall into a sob-fest. It tells life how it is, with the good and the bad, weaknesses and strenghts, and most of all it's the story of a kid with a family who loves him.

None of what I wrote feels worthy of this amazing book, so I'm sorry for that. Words fail me because I loved it very much. ^^ You can find it on Amazon both as a paperback and as a ebook, and I really can't praise it enough.

Tomorrow it'll be another crazy day full of legal tutor appointments and so on, I'm happy I got to have this quiet happy monday to prepare. ^^
nausicaa83: (<kingdom hearts> aqua)
Short entry, but I have to record it here for posterity: today I beat Marluxia on my second try. After beating Axel, also on my second try. Since every Organization XIII member in Kingdom Hearts Re:COM took me at least six tries, the only logical explanation is that Tati is my good luck charm, and now she'll have to sit next to me everytime I play a videogame, forever and ever.

And now off to bed because I'm still sick, but I have to record all my KH milestones in here. Especially when they involve bosses I thought would take me days to defeat. \o/

Also they did that awesome thing on Once Upon A Time, and even if it was sad it was also so great, and representation matters, and jhfdskhdfjkdshfkjh I'm so happy just thinking about it. Good work, show! ♥
nausicaa83: (<elementary> bees)
The sun came back after more than a week, and it made what would have been a tiring morning a much more enjoable one. There was a lot of walking, a lot of offices, papers, talking about mom's condition, but everytime I stepped outside and took a look at that bright blue sky I felt so much better.

I grabbed a couple of sandwiches for lunch, and sat down to watch Elementary. Wow. It was already a brilliant series last year, but this year they also fixed their only tiny flaw: this season the cases are more complex and engaging (which is weird when I think it's the one thing that is truly lacking this year in Person of Interest), and the character development, as always, is absolutely splendid. Truly the best thing about such a fantastic series. The writing is just something else. The natural, beautiful way their relationship keeps growing, it's amazing.

And now, ice cream and the rest of the episodes that came out yesterday. This year I'm following far more tv shows than I'm comfortable admitting.

EDIT: Just finished watching the first episode of Once Upon A Time in Wonderland. Uhm. I'm not sure I could say I liked it.

Pros: the actress playing Alice is really good, and we have an active heroine fighting and exploring to save her beloved. So yay for a feminist storyline. The Knave of Hearts is great. We get to see a lot of Wonderland, which sadly they couldn't do on OUAT. They got the Red Queen a Chess Palace, since she's not a card, but a chess piece. Naveen Andrews. Wait, count Naveen Andrews twice, he's just that good.

Cons: the actress playing the Red Queen is BAD. So, so, so freaking bad. My god, she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag, and the worst thing is, she's supposed to be this show's version of Regina, and Lana Parilla is definitely the best actress in OUAT. While this Red Queen made me cringe everytime she was on screen. But the worst thing is the fact that the good guy from Agrabah is white, while the bad guy from Agrabah is a PoC. This coming from a spin-off of a tv show whose biggest flaw is the lack of representation (in a very big cast, there are three persons of colour in total: two dead, one has a secondary storyline).

So, yep, I'm going to watch it all in one go after it's finished, but I'm not really holding my breath. Which is a pity, because I really liked the premise.

What a lovely day. Sunny, blue sky and crisp air. I had to retrieve some papers at the post office, and I was expecting a very long wait (on average I have to spend one hour and a half waiting everytime I go there), but this morning there were surprisingly only two other persons. I skipped across the street to the comic book store, where I had another one of our weird conversations with the cashier there. He prides himself with being a very pessimistic guy, and sometimes we do these phylosophical duels where I point out everything that's good with the day and he does the opposite, and see who wins. Today I had sunny weather, short queue at the post office, Bob Dylan's Just Like A Woman playing on the radio as soon as I walked in. He only had "tomorrow it could rain" and "I don't like Dylan's voice but it's a pretty good song", so it's another win for me. :D

And I came back home to other wonderful things! My Arc Reactor necklace finally arrived:

Then, the first Marvel's Agents of SHIELD full promo is out, and I must say, the special effects look great. Also, Lola. 'nuff said. :D

We also had Once Upon A Time's season finale, which, in my opinion, was a lot better than the previous episodes, and from the looks of it the next season is going to be epic. I should never forget it's from the guys who did Lost, where the even seasons were meh and the odd seasons were great. So yeah, bring on season 3!

And I'm not ashamed to admit I got a bit weepy while watching Cmr Hadfield singing Space Oddity on the International Space Station. It doesn't get any more awesome than that.

I have to see the lawyer in a couple of hours, but first I'm waiting for a call from mom's doctor about her new meds. Send me lots of happy thoughts, let's hope the day stays as bright as it began. ^^
nausicaa83: (<hobbit> legendary)
Just finished watching the latest Once Upon A Time episode, and then I checked the promo for the next episode, that will air on April 21, and that's when I found out Gary from Miranda joins the cast playing one of my favourite literary characters ever!!! I'm such a happy fangirl now!!! \o/
nausicaa83: (<once upon a time> hook)
Just watched the new episode of Once Upon A Time, The Doctor. This is no doubt one of my favourite episodes of both seasons, but let me tell you, I'm never going to watch a promo again. It was obvious ten minutes in who the Doctor really was, but knowing it beforehand took away the pleasure of squeeing out loud when they finally said his name. So, no more promos for me.

Other than that, I loved how they managed to fuse the two worlds, and make the characters interact in a way that was realistic and true to their origins. It must have been the first time I didn't care for Emma's storyline (and Emma is my favourite character) because I was too invested in seeing the Mad Hatter, the Evil Queen and the Doctor discuss the merits of magic. Kudos to the writers! This show is definitely my happy place. ^^

On real life news, my aunt is coming today after all! \o/

It's time for a prayer circle, to thank the god of TV for the marvel that is Once Upon A Time. I literally spent the whole episode squeeing "Pirates! Pirates! Pirates!" in my best Arthur Shappey voice. My whole childhood I wanted to be a pirate, Peter Pan is the first book I ever read, and this episode was amazing! Made me feel like a kid again. *________*

And I'm so glad they gave poor Belle some character development, I know they have lots of principal characters but she needed an episode for herself too. You go, girl!

Fair warning: the promo for the next episode contains spoilers about Dr Whale's true identity. So don't watch it if you don't want to know. Me, I'm ecstatic about that revelation. \o/

Hello everyone, I'm back! It was a wonderful little holiday, so relaxing and refreshing. And it made me realize four years of hopping around at the gym did put my body back together after the cancer wrecked it completely. I managed to walk for hours in the woods, and my heart and lungs were up to the task, as if I were 16 again! It was a great feeling, indeed. *______* I took a lot of pictures, all of landscapes and clouds and mountains, after the cut you'll see a selection. And today I got three packages in the mail too! \o/

We were in Cortina d'Ampezzo, one of the most beautiful little towns in the Alps. Tati was born and raised there, and her family still owns her childhood home, so it was a lovely nostalgic trip full of reminiscing on her part. *_________*

Waste away tonight/Tonight my heart's on the loose. )

Here are the contents of the first package. Four new tea blends from Adagio Teas (all recipes by Cara McGee, obviously). The rest of the Teen Wolf teas will get here later. I still have to try any of them, as they only arrived a couple of hours ago.

These are what I bought in Cortina, and they're all Made In England. :D It's a beautiful teapot, that I needed so much since I have at least fifty cups but no teapot, and two conserves. There were many types, and they all sounded delicious. I went for Raspberry because of Cabin Pressure, and it's so sweet and delicious. The Rhubarb & Ginger one I chose because it was a taste I'd never tried, and it's amazing! Very delicate, sweet and spiced at the same time. ♥

And last but definitely not least, ReaperSun's Wreck fanbook is finally here! It's so beautiful, the paper is glossy and thick, it's such great quality. *____* And the Once Upon A Time boxset, just in time for the premiere next sunday!

Now, first of all the real life news. I'm feeling better, the fever's gone, and my voice doesn't sound like Tom Waits anymore. Another few days of aerosol, and I should be fine. My aunt came back home yesterday, as she couldn't take any more days from work. Grandma seems to be doing better, her shoulder hurts and itches, but the doctor says it's a sign the bones are healing. We're all crossing our fingers here. On the phone my aunt sounded tired, but a lot like her normal self, and that made me so happy. ^^

And now, another season finale, and what a wonderful one!

Once Upon A Time )

The bluray boxset comes out in August, considering shipping times from the USA I should get it in time for my birthday. *_________*

John Finnemore posted a video on YouTube with the official Yellow Car rules. :D

I was actually wondering the same thing about taxis. Guess I'll have to take a few points off my leaderboard now.

Still loving every new Game of Thrones episode, although that last scene seriously creeped me out. So, so wrong. And was the torture scene a reference to 1984? That book still gives me the nightmares after all these years. Yuk.

Once Upon A Time is reaching the season finale, only three episodes left, and it looks like it's going to blow our minds. A certain scene in The Return made me cry like a little girl, and the promo for the next episode had me jumping up and down on my chair. I'm so excited, and at the same time I don't want it to end just yet. ^^"

On unrelated news, I got a few emails from a girl who's writing her thesis on the use of the English language as the universal language on the internet, and she wanted to use some excerpts from my blog in her power point presentation. I obviously agreed, since it's all public anyway, and anonymous (it's not like she'll put urls or nicknames), but it's still weird as hell, thinking of all those serious professors discussing about my silly ramblings on tv shows. She sent me a copy of the sentences she picked, so that I could approve them, and it was all fandom stuff. Congratulations on her, because she actually made me blush. :D

TV episodes reviews! It's been a while since I last did one, but yesterday's episodes were so intense, I had to get some thoughts out of my head. Obviously, spoilers ahead.

Once Upon A Time 1x15 Red-Handed )

I love my tv shows even if they break my heart in tandem. ♥

Once Upon A Time, you're an amazing show, and I love you so much. Even if you sometimes break my heart. This new version of Beauty and the Beast was even more amazing than I thought it would be, and we got so much plot in one episode, and I can't wait for the next one.

The one thing I didn't really get was Belle's fake british accent. No one else in FairyLand has a fake british accent, love, you don't need to do that. But other than that, this is my favourite episode of the season. ♥

I need to make at least ten icons with Belle and Mr Gold. I don't have room for new icons. Better go and watch the new Walking Dead episode while I ponder that one.
