nausicaa83: (<true detective> rest)
What a busy day! This morning I took Sakura to the vet for her check-up, and it turns out the antibiotics worked and the dermatitis is slowly going away. We did another shot, and even managed to check her heartbeat. That's usually a problem because Sakura loves the vet (who is indeed a very adorable person), and as soon as she's on the table she starts purring like crazy, thus making it impossible to hear anything else with a stethoscope. This time I noticed she had particularly hated the bus ride, so I told the vet to get the stethoscope out the second I let Sakura out of the carrier. And lo and behold, it worked! Thirty seconds later, we were back in Purr Town. :D

By the way, her heart works perfectly. ^^

Then there was the guy fixing the hydraulic pump in the garage. It broke yesterday, and flooded the garage. I'm so glad I don't have a car. But I was still the only one in the building who knew where the pump was, how it worked, where the electricity came from, and I had to give the guy a tour. The sixty-year-old man owning one of the garages didn't even know the basics, and listened in religious silence to me. It was a weird but good feeling.

And after that I got a call from the hospital telling me they were waiting for a call from me, except I had no idea, and they couldn't find mom's doctor anywhere, and I had to keep calling every fifteen minutes for two hours, and I still didn't find him. It's nothing urgent, but with the holiday tomorrow and then the weekend I'll have to wait until monday before I can talk to him. Bugger.

At that point I collapsed on my bed, and woke up an hour later when I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to be at the hairdresser, except I completely forgot, and now they're closed for two weeks. I can't believe I forgot my appointment, it's the first time it ever happened, it's so embarassing. And as I only have the number for the salon, I'll have to wait until they come back to apologize. What the hell, brain.

In fandom news, Sony made a fantastic announcement: Guillermo Del Toro will be directing the next Silent Hill game, and it'll feature Norman Reedus. I don't play horror games because they scare the shit out of me (a friend once tried to make me play a Resident Evil game, five minutes in I freaked out and shot the President's daughter in the head), but I'd really love to play a game directed by Del Toro, so during dinner I watched half a Silent Hill 2 playthrough on YouTube. It's a lot less scary when I'm not the one playing it, and so far I like it. Although I still have no idea what's going on. :D

This week I had a few very busy days, with all new ways for real life to remind me of its ugliness. Plus Sakura came out with a dermatitis, not exactly 'ugly' per se, but very annoying. Try and keep a cat from scratching herself, I dare you. And then on wednesday we had a wonderful summer day, sunny and with a fresh breeze, a clear sky so blue it gave me vertigo, and Tati and I went to downtown Venice. We did some window shopping, dodged tourists, had icecream for lunch at my favourite icecream place, and the whole time it felt like I was walking with a foot in the happiest days of my childhood, and one in the happiest days of my adult years. It was a wonderful feeling. ^^

And then I stopped at Lush, and bought a bunch of wonderful stuff. I just came out of the shower, applied all the different creams, and my skin feels all soft and fresh like a baby's, and I smell so good! I'm floating in endorphins, because this morning I did a one-hour-long workout, for the first time since I left for London. I'm less out of shape than I feared, what with the tracheitis and everything, but I sweated a lot. A lot. If you'll excuse me now I have to drink two liters of iced tea to make up for all the water I lost jumping around. :D
nausicaa83: (<kingdom hearts> a smile like the sun)
First things first, thank you all for being so nice to me when I was having a hard time the other day. You guys are wonderful! ♥

I'm feeling a lot better. I'm planning my trip to London, making a list of things we must see and checking it twice, the teeth are recovering nicely, and I'm practicing a lot on my ukulele. A lot. I can't honestly say how many times I've played Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious so far, but it's driving my cat mad, so I'd say I've reached the hundreds. I swear, when I start on the chorus she gets up and leaves the room.

This morning I finally went to therapy, after that long hiatus because stitches and all. It's a lovely summer day, sunny and windy, so I wore a pretty grey dress and my favourite sandals. I was walking past the railway station, dodging turists, when my shoes started feeling funny, soft and bouncy. I stopped, checked them, and both heels were broken. Crushed to bits. Luckly my favourite shoe store was a few minutes ahead. I hopped inside and bought these cute shoes:

I used to wear high-heeled espadrilles (and high heels in general) all the time when I was a teenager, and so I thought "why not?". It's going to take some practice to get really used to them, sure, but they don't hurt and I didn't twist anything even while running to the clinic, and they made me feel so much taller! :D

And since I'm posting pictures, here's a bonus picture of what happens when I leave my ukulele unattended for more than 20 seconds:

Tomorrow I'm supposed to have the final surgery on the stupid tooth, and then it's going to be three weeks before my gums are completely healed. It's the light at the end of the tunnel, at last!

I just realized I haven't done a proper tv show entry in a while, and I'm baking twelve muffins, so I'm stuck in the vicinity of the oven for the next twenty minutes, so on with the random entry!

First, Marvel's Agents Of Shield. I think it has finally found the right pace. The story is more complicated, less childish, and we've come to a point where we finally care for these characters (although we still know too little about their past). The latest episode was really good, in terms of structure and storyline, although the Italian setting was so badly done it had me laughing for hours. They're supposed to travel by train from Verona to Zagreb, and they say it's mostly countryside (it's not). They can see the Tre Cime of Lavaredo, absolutely impossible from where they're standing (what we see from the window is a badly photoshopped picture of the Tre Cime in the middle of the country). There are no trains like that in Italy, 'Rotaia Italia' means nothing, and the only character who talked in a slightly comprehensible italian was Ward. They jumped from Northern Italy to Puglia, then to a villa in Tuscany. Nothing made any sense, and it was hilarious. It was obviously written by someone whose idea of Italy comes from romance movies from the 50s and Eat Pray Love. XD

The Walking Dead is back, and they got Hardison from Leverage too! Although it was only one scene, who cares, I was so happy to see him. Plus Michonne is a goddess, but that's hardly news.

I also recently found out that they've been airing Almost Human in the wrong order. All the episodes are scrambled, and that's why the character development makes no sense: one week they're friends, one week they don't even talk to each other. It's not a masterpiece of a series, but it's interesting enough to deserve to be seen in the proper order. They're supposed to stop doing it after the next episode, crossing fingers here. Otherwise it'll be a disaster, it makes little sense as it is.

I really loved the latest plot twist in Teen Wolf. Well written, and a great chance for some brilliant acting. I'm glad we're expanding the mythology, and I can't wait to see where they're going with this.

Totally random, have a picture of Sakura in a paper bag:

And a picture of the chocolate chip muffins, fresh out of the oven:

They smell delicious. Now I only have to wait an hour and they'll be perfect to eat. *________*

I hope you're all having a great day. Me, I just got a text from my therapist telling me to come tomorrow morning for a session. I did some quick math, in the last two months we saw each other for a grand total of one hour and a half exactly. Unacceptable! First, I'll give her a big hug. Then, I'll talk at twice the normal speed, I have so many things to tell her, it's crazy.

And I come bearing pictures! A few pics I took at my aunt's with my new cellphone. I changed the settings of the camera when I came back, and I'm still learning how to use it, but it's quite useful to have a little camera all the time in my bag.

That's the only snow we got to see this christmas. It melted in under six hours, but I managed to snap this quick picture just before breakfast on my first day there.

Under the cut for festive sushi and trees! )

I still have to take pictures of my gifts, I'll ask Tati to help me with that. ^^
nausicaa83: (<avengers> clint and lucky)
So the dreaded visit to the vet has come and gone, and it went a lot better than I dared hope. Sakura was incredibly nice the whole time. It was still very tiring, with Sakura weighing 11 pounds plus her carrier, and the bus breaking down on the way over. My left arm still hurts, and my left shoulder has left the building. When we came back we both dropped on the couch and ate pieces of ham together. We so deserved it!

After that I booked her stay at the cat pension during the holidays, and train tickets for me to visit my family. Yessssss! Now I only have to buy xmas gifts for all of my relatives, and I have zero ideas. Send help.
nausicaa83: (<teen wolf> stiles & derek)
Well, it had to happen, with the crazy weather we've been having. Today I woke up with a cold, puffy eyes, sore throat, can't breathe, and now I have a bit of a fever too. Nothing really worth complaining about, except this broke my record. 16 months without a single cold! Go body!

Sakura is being exceptionally cute today. I started noticing this back when I had food poisoning, she can actually tell when I'm not fine, and starts going all mama cat on me. She's usually quite the indipendent cat who enjoys spending her mornings alone, and yet today she hasn't left me alone a single minute. She's currently sleeping on the bed at my feet, but everytime I stand up to get a glass of water or use the loo she startles and runs after me. The weirdest part was when I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth, and she curled up around my feet, on the floor.

It makes me want to smother her with kisses, except my face feels all gross. Tickles it is!
nausicaa83: (<007> for your eyes only)
Yesterday I went to the dentist. I stayed there three hours in total, had two teeth re-done from scratch, more or less, and even if everyone was incredibly nice, it was still a bad experience. The left side of my face kept hurting until late last night, even with painkillers, and today it still hurts when I eat. At least today I'm able to talk again. Yesterday I couldn't even carry a simple conversation on the phone without flinching every two words, and I couldn't even call [livejournal.com profile] space_oddity_75 to fangirl over Uskerty! Unacceptable! (When I'm pain I turn into the Earl of Lemongrab, apparently)

Being cut off from the rest of humanity at least allowed me to spend the time I usually spend socializing finishing the second season of Luther. Way better than the first one, I loved it. More character development, less gruesome but ultimately boring cases, that's the way it should be. And it made me long for London so much it felt like my heart was bursting out of my chest. I love that city, obviously, and I love watching movies and tv shows set in it, but I'd never felt so desperately, painfully nostalgic, like someone was squeezing my lungs. I'm blaming the medications, yes yes. I'm a tough, cynical person, that's me.

Speaking of, a picture of Sakura sleeping on the couch. I would like to point out that she's sleeping half off the edge of the couch. I took the picture then grabbed her before she could fall, and she didn't appreciate it at all. So I got her box (she loves that box) and put it on the couch, and now she has her personal, safe-proofed paper bed she can't fall off. I'm very proud of myself.

My aunt is not going to like it at all, but since boxes are by definition kitty magnets now I always know where she is: not falling off the couch. ;)

Ok, now painkillers, cup of tea and a nap. Stupid teeth.
nausicaa83: (<the hour> moneypenny & james)
Kind of a self-indulgent post, I know, but I got a few requests for new photos of Sakura, and she is growing her winter coat, soft and ginger, so I couldn't resist and I went all ninja on her with my camera:

Since everytime I try and steal a picture she usually looks like she's judging me, my clothes and my life choices, I'm really proud of these two masterpieces. :D

Let us try to give some more sense to this entry by linking you all to this audio file of Ben Whishaw reciting E.E. Cummings. You're welcome. ;)
nausicaa83: (<hot fuzz> swan chase)
Sort of an uneventful day, but for one little accident. I was on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket, reading on my kindle, which apparently in Sakura's mind is an invitation to a session of cuddling/napping/toe-hunting. She jumped on my stomach and proceeded to spend the next 15 minutes tossing and turning and planting her nails everywhere trying to find THE perfect napping position. As soon as she stopped wriggling, I looked over my kindle to see if she was finally settled, and I noticed she had a cut on her head. She never leaves the flat, so I'm not used to her being hurt, and quite frankly I have no idea how she managed to do that, but there was blood, so obviously I scooped her up and took her to the bathroom to clean the wound.

I used disinfectant and antibiotic cream meant for humans, because it's not like she ever hurt herself before, so I didn't have anything more specific in the house. She hated every second of it, and halfway through it she managed to escape and tried to hide under the wardrobe. She couldn't fit, so she got even more pissed, and all the while I was trying to grab her while carrying a drop of antibiotic cream on my right index finger.

In the end I won, but let me tell you, I do not envy the veterinarians out there. At least she never tried to cut nor bite me, even if she was irritated, so I can only imagine how much harder it must be doing something like that to a cat who hates your guts.

I swear, that icon has never been more appropriate.

Yesterday evening it finally rained. It's been the first time in two months at least. I had actually forgotten what the rain sounded like. This morning the air was crisp and fresh, and leaving the house was finally pleasant, instead of reminiscent of Dante's Inferno. And the meds I had to buy for my mom finally arrived (seriously, three pharmacies, and when I found someone who had them I had to wait three days for them to actually arrive, what the hell, are they made of plutonium or what), so that's a huge thing off my list.

Earlier I was reading on the couch, when Sakura decided that my leg was apparently the comfiest place to fall asleep on, and she stayed that way for more than an hour. I didn't move, because she was snoring and everything, but I managed to take a picture with my phone.

Her head is on the right, behind my calf. I still have pins and needles in my left leg, but she was so cute!

I also found a great Travelling Lemon picture, here on tumblr. I'm sure all you Cabin Pressure fans will appreciate it. ;) Speaking of which, John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme is coming back on 22nd August, I'm so excited! I thought it was coming back in the fall, or even later, so glad to be proven wrong. \o/

Sort of still in topic, I'm going to see Frankenstein in a cinema in Milan on 2nd October. So excited about it! I booked the motel, and I'm waiting for the tickets to be available so that I can pre-order them. *_________*

And I finally got the Unbound Keyblade for Sora! It's ugly, but hey, I need it to defeat the secret boss. I'm way behind with Riku, as his enemies are obviously stronger. I have a feeling it'll be easier to just level him up to 99 first, and then finish doing his secret bosses.

Feeling a lot better today. Still have a couple of blisters on my feet, but nothing serious. It was definitely the hottest day in weeks, so I ate a lot before heading out of the door. Not going to faint in public again, thank you very much. For the first time since I was 13 I bought art supplies. That's... 16 years, holy crap. Obviously, it took me an eternity to choose. I wanted cheap stuff, because it's not like I'm an art student, but not too cheap, and there were lots of Disney pencils and pens that got me sidetracked, and Spiderman erasers too. Kids are so lucky nowadays, wish we had those when I was a kid. Wow, now I sound like an elderly lady. Long story short, this is what I bought:

I felt an awful lot like Steve Rogers in The Act Of Creation Will Be Your Salvation, which is one of my favourite fanfics ever (go read it, it's amazing), and it has this beautiful chapter about pencils and the colour blue, and there was a moment when I checked the pencils and got lost in thought trying to guess the proper names of all those colours. I blame the heat.

Tea and biscuits when I got back, and I finally tried the Loki tea. It's mint-flavoured. Which is, as you all know, green. I opened it, sniffed it, and started laughing. Well played, Cara, well played. :D I put icecubes in the cup, and it was very refreshing indeed. And green. ;D

Follow the cut for the Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff teas. )

Bonus picture of Sakura. She hates the heat, and she's even sleepier than usual (considering she's a cat, she's sleeping all the time). She doesn't usually sleep in that position, she usually looks way more graceful, and her sleep is light - she actually purrs while napping. Lately her sleep is so deep she doesn't even notice when I leave the room, and I usually find her sprawled on the couch, like my dog used to do.

Yesterday night I finished watching Grimm! What an ending, what a cliffhanger! I'm so glad I only have to wait 10 days for the next season, the ending took me absolutely by surprise. I finished watching it by 1 am, and when I woke up this morning I found myself humming This is Halloween while making breakfast, which I guess was my brain processing the show. XD I did a quick search, but it seems no one made a Grimm fanvid to that song, and that's so weird.

I'll try and do my first drawing before dinner, so that I can show it to my therapist tomorrow. I already have a couple of ideas twirling around in my head, it'll be nice to put them on paper.

Today sent me all sorts of mixed signals. The morning was splendid. Everything I set out to do went perfectly, and everyone I met was incredibly nice to me. I had all kinds of wonderful conversations with strangers. Then I had some problems at the bank (they changed my account's number), and I had to call four different callcenters, and that got me so nervous I was on the verge of tears. But then everyone who answered was exceptionally nice, and now I have solved almost everything, and only have to visit another office on thurday. Crisis averted, faith in humanity stronger than ever. And I even rescued Sakura who was trying to eat a bumblebee. I scooped her up and rushed her inside before the bumblebee decided to act.

On the way to the bank I walked by a little music store. I checked the windows, and they had Harvest by Neil Young. It was my dad's favourite album, and I already had it (both tape and cd), but I suddenly remembered all the times he told me of when he bought the LP, as a teen, and how much he loved listening to it. So I entered and bought it. The clerk put it in a transparent plastic bag, I walked out, and a middle-aged couple saw it, and the man stopped and said, in awe: "Harvest. Neil Young. Congratulations." I stopped on my tracks, smiled and said thanks, a bit surprised. He went on praising the album and my taste in music, and I thanked him again, and we talked about how the classics stay in our hearts, and that even if cds have the best sound, vynil records have an inimitable nostalgia factor.

Today shall be remembered as the day corporations tried their best to piss me off, while strangers made my day so much brighter.

It was also the day my Art of the Avengers artbook finally arrived, which made me squee and do a dance around the living room to Heart of Gold, while Sakura silently judged me.

She can't understand why I got so excited over that book, while it came in a much more interesting box.

Along with a few Civil War comic books, that are apparently very comfy.

I'll go with the latest book I bought, Professor Moriarty : The Hound of the D'Urbervilles by Kim Newman. It arrived two days ago, I haven't had the chance to read it yet, so here's what Amazon has to say about it:

Imagine the twisted evil twins of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson and you have the dangerous duo of Professor James Moriarty - wily, snake-like, fiercely intelligent, terrifyingly unpredictable - and Colonel Sebastian Basher Moran - violent, politically incorrect, debauched. Together they run London crime, owning police and criminals alike. When a certain Irene Adler turns up on their doorstep with a proposition, neither man is able to resist. An entertaining and wickedly humorous crime adventure from the bestselling writer of Anno Dracula.

Sounds so fascinating! *____*

On the fanfic front, my favourite Avengers fic, and one of the best I have ever read, In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned by Nick Fury) by scifigrl47. It has everything, humour, romance, drama, great character development, an eye for the comics while keeping the movie characterizations flawless, it is definitely an A+.

As I spent the last half hour scrolling down this site and laughing so much I almost peed myself, I feel like it's my duty to share it with my f-list:

Bad Romances

It's a collection of horrible, unintentionally hilarious romance book covers. From the titles, to the awful photoshop skills, from the spirit animals photobombing the sex scenes to the objectified scotsmen, from the lurky threesome guys to the improbable anatomy. And tentacles too. I'm laughing my sides off here. XD

Real life is going fine, mom is having her usual surgery this week (she has one every three months), so I'm carrying my cellphone with me even in the bathroom, just in case. Yesterday the hot, african weather arrived, and I had to turn the air conditioner on, although it's only dehumidifying. I'm feeling a bit ditzy because of my blood pressure, but other than that I'm fine. Sakura's shedding a lot of hair, so we have a grooming session every morning. She loves being brushed, and she always reacts by licking me everywhere. If I start singing to her she relaxes instantly and she stops squirming. Otherwise I end up brushing my own leg, and since the brush is made of tiny metal nails (it's for long-haired cats) and I don't wear trousers in the summer, only shorts, it's kind of an unpleasant situation.

It makes me feel a lot like a snake charmer. :D

Otherwise I end up brushing my own leg, and since the brush is made of tiny metal nails (it's for long-haired cats) and I don't wear trousers in the summer, only shorts, it's kind of an unpleasant situation.

nausicaa83: (<supernatural> let's jam)
This morning Sakura finally did her x-ray. They had to put her under, so that she wouldn't move, so I dropped her at the vet at 9 and came back at 11:30. I wasn't feeling very good: fever, nausea, shivers, but I really didn't want to postpone it. Anyway, it was worth it, because as it turns out Sakura doesn't have bone cancer!!!! YES!!! The problem is simple, her right femur isn't perfectly lodged in the hip, so when she stands up it stings for a couple of seconds, but as soon as she warms up, it stops hurting. That explains the disappearing limp, and the fact that she didn't look like she was in any pain.

In conclusion, it's a rare but absolutely normal disability, and we already learned how to deal with it in the past few weeks (believe it or not, I taught her how to stretch her legs when she stands up, like the good mama cat I am), so everything's alright, and I can go and collapse in my bed because this stupid bug needs my attention, and I do not want to spoil the day by spending it throwing up.

Tune in later for a fandom meme, and a review of the Vampire Diaries season finale, aka, the best TVD episode ever, holy crap.
