nausicaa83: (<x-men> logan & laura)
I've been back home in Venice for a couple of days. The weather is wonderful, as spring has finally arrived, and I feel at peace and relaxed. And yet I'm having problems sleeping, or to be more precise, I sleep just fine, but I wake up really early, even when there's no need to. It's like my brain suddenly needs fewer hours of sleep to recharge. I guess the sudden weather change is to blame, but it doesn't bother me, so we'll see how long it lasts.

Next week I'm leaving for London with Tati, where we'll meet up with my cousin, who's currently in Ireland with her boyfriend (who lives and works there). We'll stay there the weekend of Tati's birthday, for the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour concert, then we'll all come back here together, just in time for my next treatment. It was supposed to be on the day I had to take the plane, but my oncologist moved it to the following week so I could go see the concert. The plan now is to take a long walk every day until then so that my muscles and lungs can stand three days as a tourist. Obviously I'm going to be very careful, take frequent breaks, take cabs instead of the subway, to minimize the strain on my body. I'm equal parts excited and very nervous. And part of me still can't believe it's actually happening!

Speaking of, yesterday I went to the cinema by myself for the first time since the diagnosis. I've always loved going to the cinema alone, but ever since 2015 I've rarely left the house without a chaperone, for good reason. And even when I started coming back here on my own, I still preferred to keep my outings short, and always have the cellphone ready to call for help. So yeah, this was huge. I wore my cute red coat, took a commemorative picture, and then turned my phone off for two hours. And the movie I chose for this momentous occasion was Logan. Because I enjoy weaving metaphors in my life. :D

Joking about metaphors of rebirth aside, that movie was amazing. With the rating, and the Hurt trailer, I kinda had an idea of what it was going to be like, but holy shit. It was like Children of Men but it made me cry even more. I think I cried at least six separate times over the course of two hours, one of which was just because they used my favourite Johnny Cash song, The Man Comes Around. It was so good, and so well-acted, and so devastating. I've been watching X-Men movies since 2003, and I couldn't have asked for a better ending. They just peaked with this one, and anything after this would just be... less.

And now, I have to do laundry! I love how even the most mundane tasks take a whole different meaning now. ^^

What a day, what a lovely day (shiny and chrome)! Two new episodes I'd been waiting for for months were waiting for me when I woke up! That, and I found a lot less ants than I feared: there's been the usual infestation, as they do every summer without fail. This time though I've been battling it with poison spray and vacuum cleaner for three days and they still haven't left the house! The neighbour was completely useless, even if he has the infestation as well, so I've been fighting on my own. Maybe, just maybe, I've finally won. We'll see tomorrow, though. There's also been a lot of printing papers and documents and calls from the hospital and usual depressing guardian stuff. I've been doing it for years, doesn't make it any easier.

But at least on the fandom side I got both Gravity Falls and Steven Universe to cheer me up! A Tale Of Two Stans was so good by the end I was almost hyperventilating. Theories confirmed, theories squashed, so much new information, it'll take me a lot of viewings to digest it all. What a fantastic episode! Cry For Help featured a new character that had been spoiled for me all weekend, because people on tumblr are incapable of using tags, and they enjoy leaks for some reason. I shall never understand the fascination with learning spoilers beforehand, instead of waiting for when the episode airs in all its high quality glory and context. Bah. I've been unfollowing people left and right, so at least now my dashboard looks a lot cleaner. Anyway, Alexia Khadime was wonderful (and I do hope they'll have her sing in a future episode, she's a wonderful Elphaba, it would be such a missed opportunity for her not to!), but the episode was a lot more depressing than I expected. These kids' shows don't mess around. O_O

Yesterday I also watched the X-Men Days Of Future Past Rogue Cut: it's a new version of the movie, with 20 minutes of added scenes and, as the title subtly implies, the return of Rogue. I adore this movie, but I thought this new cut was completely useless: all the added dialogues were redundant, and it made sense to leave them on the cutting room floor. The Rogue's scenes had no point, as she actually doesn't do or say anything, and she's basically a prop. The added scene at the house, with Raven and Hank, was a mess: cringe-worthy and embarassing all around. The only thing I took from this movie is a sense of gratitude that they cut all this stuff out in the original version, which made for a much more coherent plot with great pacing.

There's a new heatwave here, but thankfully it's not as vicious as the last one. Sakura is suffering the heat a lot, though: she sleeps on the marble floor, all spread out like a dog would, and even longer than usual. Poor baby!

It's been a great weekend. I finished my part of my cousin's graduation thesis on Futurism (he's still going to check it and re-write it, but I did the bulk of the job), and I learned a lot of stuff in the process. I finally threw away all my old notes from University. I did my civic duty and voted at the EU elections, and my party won. I'm more left-winged than what I voted for, but it was the only party that had a serious chance to win, and I couldn't risk it. I got a few more accomplishments on Just Dance, I'm getting pretty good at dancing and it's a great workout game all around. On the other hand, I got a text from my therapist, and she had to cancel our next session, so that got me grumbling a lot.

Today I got all the papers I'll need tomorrow ready, as I'll have to go back to real-life serious legal tutor business, so after that I put on my X-Men necklace and went to the new cinema downtown to see Days of Future Past again. I see your real life, I raise you a nerdy afternoon. It was even better than the first time. Lacking the "wow" factor of unexpected plot twists, I could focus on all the details, and it's just such a freaking GREAT movie all around. The script, the story, the cinematography, the acting. And I cried a lot more because for some reason the sad scenes hit me even more this time around. I can't believe I have to wait until September for the blu ray!

Weird piece of trivia, but I noticed that in the Italian dubbing Quicksilver is called Pietro, not Peter, something that apparently bothered everyone that watched the original version. I have no idea why they would americanize his name, but I'm glad they didn't in the Italian dubbing. Good job, guys. ^^

I've also learned how to play Quicksilver's song, Time in a Bottle, on the ukulele. I'm going to practice a little more, and then dinner! \o/
nausicaa83: (<ashes to ashes> for her time iem iem)
It's 1 am, I just came home. I saw X-Men Days Of Future Past.

It was bloody AMAZING.

We laughed, we cried, we cheered, we cried some more. It was perfect. The seventies were so perfect it was like watching Life on Mars. Quicksilver was perfect. Everything is perfect. I may or may not be a little high on this film right now. More coherent thoughts when I wake up tomorrow.

Another crazy week has passed, with some of the weirdest weather this year. Yesterday I was downtown with a friend, and we got caught in a storm while having icecream. Today it's so hot I wore a tank top and shorts to the store, and Sakura is sprawled on the floor under the air conditioning unit. I haven't turned it on, but she isn't giving up hope. :D Real life is still hard, especially because I've had to cut down on therapy sessions this month, but it should all go back to normal starting next week.

Today I finished playing Child of Light, a stunning RPG recently released by UbiSoft. It's the story of a princess, Aurora, who wakes up from a sleeping curse in a dream world of fairytale creatures, and with the help of various friends she has to fight the Queen of Night and her daughters to free her people and save her father. Think Okami meets Mozart's Magic Flute. Here's a few screenshots:

The combat system is simple and elegant, and there's platform sequences and puzzles to solve, and a second player can use another controller to play as the little firefly. Otherwise, the main player controls both Aurora and the firefly at the same time. It's stunning, poetic, everything that I love about videogames all wrapped in one. And the special edition comes with a poster of Aurora by Yoshitaka Amano! *_____*

Tonight Tati and I are going to the cinema to watch X-Men Days of Future Past: I'm trying to keep my expectations low because the first one is one of my favourite movies ever, and then they went and changed the director, but the first reviews are coming in and they sound good. Even while crossing fingers and toes, it would still be worth it just for the cast alone. ♥
nausicaa83: (<x-men> all hope is lost)
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy:

It's the trailer of X-Men - Days of Future Past. Wow. It looks even better than I hoped, and even sadder than I feared. Oh boy, I can't wait.

I'M BACK!!! Wow, that was a long trip. I took the first train at 7:30 am. My aunt parked the car four minutes before the train left, and we had to run uphill to reach the station. Those years at the gym are surely paying off. I arrived in Turin at 9, and met my eldest cousin, who's studying there. We hadn't seen each other in six months, and she looks older and more beautiful, wow. We had breakfast, and talked a lot, mainly of Game of Thrones. We're both crazily excited about the season finale on sunday. :D

Then I took another train at 11, and spent the next five hours reading Game of Thrones on my Kindle, running to the bathroom (it's the second day of my period, yuk), and watching the scenery. No earthquakes this time, and a taxi ride later I was finally home. Sakura was absolutely flabbergasted. She looked at me as if I was a ghost. She's been in my neighbour's care for only two days, but I guess for a cat it still feels like a long time. She's been following me steadily ever since, and I almost tripped on her twice while cleaning up the air conditioning unit - it's so hot and humid here in Venice, as soon as I came in I took the filters off and washed them, so that tomorrow I can use it, at least to dehumidify the air a bit. There were no damages because of the earthquakes, except for a little wooden camel I bought years ago in Tunisia, that fell from a shelf and broke. Some of my manga were scattered too, but none had fallen on my action figures, so no damage there either. ^^

I had two packages on the kitchen table waiting for me, and I tried to take a picture of the content like I usually do, but Sakura kept getting in my way. XD

Now it's time for some tea, a bit of dusting, and then I'll lie on the couch for a while. These long trips are very tiring when one's on her period. ^^"

There are also some great fandom news:

- You can vote the cover for the Travelling Lemon project here. ^^
- The sequel to X-Men First Class has a release date, summer 2014! YES!!!
- Some pictures of Eleven's New Outfit! I love it! Yesterday I also read some huge spoilers about the identity of the new companion, but my lips are sealed. ;)
- They're releasing a Phase One Avengers Bluray Collection: all the six prequels, plus the Avengers movie, in one delicious package. It would be so freaking tempting, if I didn't already own them all. Still, holy crap, so tempting.

First, thanks to all of you guys for the help planning my trip to London. I'm so excited, you have no idea. And remember, if you'd like a postcard, you can PM me your address up until March 26th. ^^

I found this today, and had to share it with all of you. This vidder took Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Sherlock and X-Men First Class and made the ultimate trailer for the ultimate movie. A must-see. ♥

I would sell my soul to Crowley to make this happen. :D

It's official! Matthew Vaughn is returning to direct the sequel to his box office smash X-Men: First Class.

Crying tears of joy right now. While doing my happy-happy dance. It sounds like this, in case you were wondering. :D

Today's is the sixth anniversary of mom's accident. As much as I hate it, it looks like my body just doesn't agree with anniversaries. My stomach hurts, my head hurts, and I can't wait until this is over. Right now I'm drinking hot tea, trying to breathe slowly, because I'll be damned if I get another panic attack. I can do it! *fist in the air, waves crushing behind her, 80s music starts playing*

Talking about fandom, it looks like we finally have a sequel to X-Men First Class. You know, the moment I've been waiting for since last june. Right now I feel like this:

"Yay, a sequel! I've been waiting for so long! A new movie!"
"Oh god, it's the guy who ruined the franchise writing X3, oh god oh god let me die"
"But he did write Sherlock Holmes and I loved that movie. Mr and Mrs Smith wasn't bad either"
"But he also wrote Jumper, oh god oh god, life's not worth living"
"But Matthew Vaughn re-writes scripts he doesn't like, he already did it for First Class, I'm sure he'll fix everything"
"God, I need a drink."

In conclusion, it was the news I've been expecting for months, delivered on the worst possible day. I'm so emotional now I could be bursting into tears listening to the national anthem. So, no further comments until my brain decides to collaborate again.

Today it's Spirit Day! Time to wear purple to support anti-bullying and the LGBT community, and I'm all set and ready to go. The one thing I don't have is a purple umbrella, because it's raining and it would be perfect. Maybe next time.

Time for the weekly therapy update, yesterday we ended up talking about the Lucca Comic Convention, so I explained to her what a comic convention looks like, and I started talking about cosplay.

"That's great! And everyone wears costumes like that?"
"Well, 90% of the people there do. For example, even I'm going to wear one this year, sort of"
"Really?"
"Yeah, I'm going as... do you know who the X-Men are?"
"Sure!"
"Well, I'm going as Magneto from the First Class movie"
"Oh, I haven't seen it, is it good?"
"...you just didn't ask me that. Seriously, I'm way, way more obsessed with that movie than you ever want to know"
"I'm so going to see it"
"Crazily obsessed. Crazy. I'm warning you"

The minute she sees it, I'm never going to stop talking about it. She's so going to regret it. XD

So, time to suit up, grab an umbrella and face the cold wet world. See you later! :D
