nausicaa83: (<cardcaptor sakura> fangirling)
Just came back from watching Rogue One, so here's the obligatory spoiler-free entry: it was brilliant, in every aspect, the perfect blend of beautiful plot and character development, nostalgia and modern storytelling. I loved every character in that fantastically diverse cast, I loved Jyn to pieces, and Andor, and that scene with Vader in the hallway was worth the price of the ticket alone! I got chills, I cried, I squeed in delight. The cameos and nods to the original trilogy were handled amazingly well, perfectly woven into the story without being jarring. And those cgi characters were seriously well-done, kudos.

But most of all the story, the dialogue, the characters! The way they depicted the Rebel Alliance, in a way they'd never done before, and that I wasn't expecting at all. The beaches. Yavin 4. My new otp, which is incredibly easy to identify if you know me. The music! The fight scenes with the X-Wings, that looked even better than in The Force Awakens! The more I think about it, the more I love this movie. \o/

Comments will probably contain spoilers, so if you've seen this wonderful movie, come squeal with me!
nausicaa83: (<star wars> finn)
Quick update! Next chemo is on wednesday, I keep feeling better every new day. My back is finally fine, there's only the pleurae that still hurt a bit, but even that's receding. I feel stronger and can do stuff like lifting heavy things or walk all day without getting winded. It's like re-discovering my body every dawn. I keep in contact with my therapist every day and we talk at least once a week.

Today my aunt and I went to the local cinema to watch The Force Awakens. It was her first Star Wars movie, and she loved it. Even more than I dared hope. Her favourite character is Rey, and she calls Poe "the hottest guy in the galaxy". She got very maternal with Finn, and she hates Kylo Ren. We're obviously related. ;) She was pissed I hadn't told her it was a trilogy, because she wasn't expecting an open ending and she wanted to see more. :D Me, I loved it even more than the first time. ♥

And now, to bed! Since I'm allergic to the chemo I have to do three days of antihistamine before every infusion, and that means a lot of sleep. Which is great because with the chemo they also give me cortisone, that keeps me awake better than ten shots of espresso. So I get to sleep for three days straight, then I'm caffeinated for two. It's a delightful week. ;)

Sorry for the delay! Health update first: the side effects this time around were a lot milder, which apparently means my body is handling the meds really well. Everyday it hurts a little less, and it makes me want to test my limits (that's usually when my aunt tackles me with a blanket and sends me to bed). Last week I went to the local fair and walked around for two hours, and last saturday it was five hours of christmas shopping. When I came back home I was exhausted, but in a good way: no horrible pains, it just felt like I'd been to the gym too long, and the next day I woke up feeling great. In other news, the hair is finally falling. It was a great idea to cut it short as soon as I started the chemo, so it wasn't an awful experience like it could have been. My aunt cut it even shorter, and then tucked me in bed and made me eat an awful lot of chocolate. It's still falling, but at a slower pace, and since it's so short now I almost don't notice it.

Yesterday my oldest cousin and I went to the cinema to watch the new Star Wars movie. She isn't much of a fan, but she knew how much it meant to me. She's a Sith supporter (she always cheers for the villains), and I'm a Jedi all the way, so we kept cheering at completely different parts of the movie. :D

I want to keep this absolutely spoiler-free, so this is all I have to say about it: I loved this movie to pieces, loved the new trio, the nostalgia and the plot, the old characters and the new characters, and I feel like it captured the atmosphere and the feeling of a classic Star Wars movie perfectly. The one thing I didn't like was the villain: didn't like the actor, and I found his backstory to be really weak. But that's a minor flaw in a movie that I loved, so it didn't bother me that much. Plus by the end of the movie I had a new OTP, which apparently is the most popular one and really obvious if you know me, but hey, I'm a predictable gal. :D

If you want to talk about the movie, just put "spoilers" in the subject line in the comment, so others can avoid them. ;)
nausicaa83: (<steven universe> we always save the day)
I just completed the new Steven Universe game, Attack The Light, with 100% on all stages. I loved it! It's an app (both iOS and Android), and I highly recommend it even to those who haven't seen the show: as an RPG it's complex and funny, the gameplay is great and never frustrating, and the style is lovely. It's a perfect fusion (ah!) of the show's original style and a chibi one.

There are also a lot of cute nerdy references: all the Gems start at level 9000, Amethyst says "Bowacunga" when levelling up, Steven goes "item, I choose you!" when using an item. And the story is lovely, coherent to the show's, a real treat for the fans.

In other fandom news, how cool was that new Star Wars trailer? I screamed, I cried, and quite frankly those two minutes were a lot better than all prequel movies put together. I'm confident we can finally leave that nightmare behind, and enjoy a new era of Star Wars movies, the way they should be.

Yes, I'm still bitter about that train-wreck.

I'm also way behind on my Reading Bingo, because I'm reading a book I'm not enjoying at all, but at the same time I'm not completely hating it. So I'm stuck. It's so boring I can only read a couple of pages a day before I start making distressed whale noises, but I still feel obliged to finish it. Damn. I'm trapped - trapped like a... tinned anchovy!

(I amuse myself!)
nausicaa83: (<doctor who> twice the man)
Big news! We decided to upgrade our therapy sessions to twice a week. I had wanted to ask her for some time, but since my therapist works in two different hospitals, with terminal cancer patients, I simply thought she couldn't have the time. It turns out she wanted to ask me too, but she thought she had to wait for me to suggest it. So now it's going to be every wednesday and friday, unless something happens. And we talked for a whole hour of this five-minute dream I had last night. I knew dreams were important, I just hadn't realized how much.

I'm slowly putting together all the pieces of my first cosplay. It's going to be a female version of the Eleventh Doctor, the Pandorica scene with the mop and the fez, so I can use a bit of my own personal taste with the jacket and the skirt. It's definitely going to be a skirt. I still need to buy the jacket and the boots - I need to buy new boots, those ankle-high cute ones, and they would go perfectly with this cosplay. But for that I have to wait until September, there's only summer clothes and bathing suits in stores now. So far I got the fez, the braces, the bowtie is on the way, as I bought it on ebay yesterday. About that, I got the weirdest email from the seller. Usually it's "thanks for your order, we shipped it this morning". This guy went a bit overboard:

"Congratulation! It is our privilege and honour to inform you that your order has just been dispatched.

Our team of certified grabatologists had a little quarrel over who would actually handle your order but they came to an amicable decision to do it together. All 4 of them were literally walking across the floor each holding a corner of the products you ordered with the biggest smiles I have ever seen on their faces.

When the Royal Mail postal van arrived there were cheers and whistles as your package was given priority treatment and handed over ahead of the rest on a purple silk cushion.
They were talking about you for hours after the delivery van left and now all 4 of our grabatologists want to nominate you as their customer of the year.
"

I admire your style, guys. :D

Let's conclude with a video! This crazy person made a video of Call Me Maybe using Star Wars quotes. Just watch it, no words can really describe it:

I'm being predictable, I know, but my favourite part is everytime they say "Windu". :D

nausicaa83: (<sherlock> now people will talk)
Today it's Star Wars day, so all together now,

May The Fourth Be With You!

I love saying that, it never gets old. :D

Today is also the 121th anniverary of the original Reichenbach fall, on May 4th 1891. So happy anniversary, Sherlock Holmes fandom, the fandom that waited, and waited, and waited some more! May it always be 1895 in our hearts. ;)

It's been a quiet uneventful day. Had to move my therapy session to next tuesday because my therapist got the flu, working in a hospital and everything. Man, I wouldn't last one day. Not sure I would have been able to go, though, because today is the second day of my period, and I ache everywhere. Plus the usual, nausea, headache, and dizziness. Ugh.

Anyway, the Vampire Diaries episode brightened up the day a lot, with its incredible plot twists. It felt like a two-hour-long episode, so much stuff happening, amazing. The season finale is going to blow my mind, I know it. And I especially loved that song right at the beginning, these guys sure know how to choose great songs. *________*

I'm praying the tv gods they'll give Community a new season. Yesterday's episode felt so much like a final episode, it was heartbreaking. And I read some great theories online, concerning the characters from the evil timeline interacting with our timeline, if that's true, then it's definitely another season finale that's going to blow my mind. :D

It's here! My Game of Thrones boxset is finally here! Now I have until April 1st to do a proper marathon, so that I'm ready for the new season. *___________*

I gave up and bought The Walking Dead compendium too. Being a fan of the tv series, I stumbled in spoilers from the comic books everywhere, so I thought it was time to read it and find out the rest for myself. I already gathered the two storylines are quite different, and that makes me happy. This way one doesn't spoil the other and I can enjoy both. ^^

Finally, the Robot Chicken Star Wars Specials. I can quote them by heart, and the DVDs are at last available in Europe too. Every Star Wars fan should watch them, they're hilarious. :D

And what is probably the last piece of official Sherlock-related product I'll be able to buy this year. Now I feel like crying and reading some fanfics. But first, to the PS3! Let's see some of that ice and fire in glorious high res. *_________*

Tsubasa #135 spoilers are out. I think I should get Photoshop ready, this looks like a very promising chapter. ;) I wonder what the next world will look like...

Good news, the plumbers are coming on monday with my new boiler! I just have to resist another two days without catching pneumonia and I'm set! :P

Today's vids are both Star Wars parodies from Robot Chicken:

The awful Truth - That's not true! That's impossible! It's great to hear Mark Hamill again! *_____*

President Bush is a Jedi - It's all the midichlorians' fault. :P

Aaaaand, my favourite video from the BackDorm Boys (Lol) --> Da Da Da. XD

This is no great illusion
When I'm with you I'm looking for a ghost
Or invisible reasons
To fall out of love and run screaming from our home

Because we live in a house of mirrors
We see our fears and everything
Our songs, faces, and second hand clothes
But more and more we're suffering
Not nobody, not a thousand beers
Will keep us from feeling so all alone

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
That's why I'm here on your doorstep
Pleading for you to take me back

The phone is a fine invention
It allows me to talk endlessly to you
About nothing disguising my intentions
Which I'm afraid, my friend, are wildly untrue

It's a sleight of hand, a white soul band
The heart attacks I'm convinced I have
Every morning upon waking
To you I'm a symbol or a monument
Your rite of passage to fufillment
But I'm not yours for the taking

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
So I guess that's why you keep calling me back

I'm fraudulent, a thief at best
A coward who paints a bullshit canvas
Things that will never happen to me
But at arms length, it's Tim who said
I'm good at it, I've mastered it
Avoiding, avoiding everything

But you are what you love, Tim
And not what loves you back
And I'm in love with illusions
So saw me in half
I'm in love with tricks
So pull another rabbit out of your hat

I'm working on another cd for Penny, even if I don't know when I can give it to her. It's probably going to be a two-disc compilation! :D Anyway this song will be in for sure. ;)

How great, now I'm recieving catholic spam in the mail. O_O Well, it's better than those viagra e-mails, but still, it feels kinda creepy reading subjects as "in god we trust". *shudder*

Today I went to my old hospital, and get them the papers for my next echography. It felt so weird walking around my old town, I could walk blindfolded and never get lost. It makes me feel even more depressed than usual, so I felt a bit relieved when I came back home. At least I don't have to go back there for another couple of months.

Today's vids are for the Star Wars fans:

Star Wars IV - A New Extended Scene - Obi Wan gives Luke his father's lightsaber. Because after seeing Revenge of the Sith we all know Anakin wanted his son to have his lightsaber. Sure.

Star Wars VI - The truth about Luke's father - Poor Luke, he's getting a bit confused there. So are we. XD

What happened after the first Death Star blew up - I love the Emperor. XD

Good news, I bought Tati's XMas gift. Hurrah! Now we have one month and a half for it to arrive, and if it gets lost all I can do is panic because I have no ideas left. :P And I'm damn sure she's going to love this gift! *proud* Now I only have to think of the gifts for all my other friends, and I'm set. *wallet cries*
