nausicaa83: (<ashes to ashes> and when she wakes up)
I had a great weekend! Tati and I went to the Mantova Comics convention, a tradition of ours. She went as genderbent Dean Winchester, I went as myself because I stopped working on my cosplay when I thought I couldn't go anymore because of the tooth. Next time, definitely. ;) We had a wonderful time, took a lot of pictures of brilliant cosplayers, talked to a lot of great persons, bought some wonderful things, and even attended the last half an hour of a concert.

A picture we all agreed deserved the front page. It's Sherlock and John making out while Tumblr exults. I love cosplayers. :D

More pictures under the cut, including yours truly with an idol of hers! )

While at the convention we saw some people playing Just Dance 2014, and I fell in love with it. I bought Just Dance 4 yesterday (I'll buy the 2014 one from Amazon, it's cheaper there), and spent the whole afternoon dancing around. Today my muscles feel all sore in that wonderful way they do after a good hour at the gym. Also, it turns out I got the moves, who knew? :D
nausicaa83: (<sherlock> happy moments)
Quick entry to warn my friends in the Sherlock fandom: today The Guardian published spoilers for the final episode. It seems like some kind of petty revenge for something that happened at the screening yesterday, but anyway, be super careful. And on the same occasion Moffat said they've already planned series 4 and 5. We already knew they had all signed for the next season, but it's really nice to know about series 5 as well. *______*

Me, I've had a couple of bad days because of period cramps, but today I'm feeling better, and I got an invitation for lunch tomorrow with a friend I haven't seen in months, I'm very excited! And I played a couple of hours at Dragon Age Origins before dinner. I just finished the Noble Dwarf chapter, she's a rogue but I'm playing like a warrior because it seems I'm incapable of fighting any other way. Oops.

I'm planning a cosplay for next March and the most important part of the costume arrived today. It's big for me, as expected, so it's going to need some work done. My options are: find a tailor nearby, or work on puppy eyes for the next time my aunt comes over. Decisions, decisions.
nausicaa83: (<doctor who> whee!)
Second part of the Lucca Comics and Games entry!

And it spread//And it spread into the world. )

In conclusion, we had a great time, I fought my stupid stage fright and had lots of fun, and the Battle was amazing. I'm planning to do another cosplay next year at the Mantova Comics too, I'm on a roll. *_____*
nausicaa83: (<disney> merida)
Come one, come all, it's time for our annual Lucca Comics and Games entry! This year with a gazillion of pictures, so it'll be divided in two entries! I know, shocking. :D And it was my very first time cosplaying, I went for female-Eleven from Doctor Who, thinking no one would recognize me. As it turns out, I was so very, very wrong. Not only did I meet many other Doctors, but many, many persons recognized me, took so many pictures, and it was amazing! \o/

The Lucca Comics and Games for years has been set in the actual city of Lucca. The city is stunning, it's still as it were in the Middle Ages, with the walls around it all intact. It reminds me of Venice during the Carnival, with all the cosplayers. :D

So, after the cut, get ready for Doctors, Heirs to the Iron Throne, Prophets and Avengers!

Then you came back from space//With a brand new laugh and a different face. )

The second part, with more amazing cosplayers and pictures of the Battle of Bunker Hill is here.

Super short therapy session today, as there was an emergency back in the hospital and my therapist had to run away. We mainly talked about what "respect" means to me. It was a short, but very interesting talk. I have to write down a couple of things I'd like to discuss next week, so that I won't forget.

I came back home by 6 pm, and I had just undressed when the bell rang. It was the postman, who told me they're now doing 8-20 shifts, and they will deliver mail even in the afternoon. That's very useful! I just need to get used to the bell ringing in the afternoon, the mail only comes in the morning since the day I was born. It's going to be so weird.

The package was from Forbidden Planet, and it was my new Sonic Screwdriver! And holy crap, it looks like a sex toy even more than in the show. And it already looked like the less subtle phallic object in sci-fi history. The first time it appeared I laughed a good hour. But I needed it for my cosplay, as I only had the Tenth Doctor's one, so there. It looks like a very uncomfortable dildo. And it comes with batteries, but it's a bit too complicated to open, and I don't want to break it since it's all plastic, and let's face it, the only thing that would make it more embarassing would be giving it lights and sounds.

I stopped at GameStop while going to the hospital, and bought the new Kingdom Hearts game. Kingdom Hearts is and will always be my favourite game, and one of the stories that I love most in general, and this is the first sequel we got in years (Re:Coded does so not count), I'm so excited about it my heart is racing!

Just so you know, I have very long fingers, the kind that are usually called "pianist fingers", and this thing still looks huge in my hand.

And it's going to sit there and guard the little Soras until November. Well, I'm going to do a few test pictures as soon as the bowtie gets here, but that's going to be its place.

Yesterday I started watching Grimm. I had it on my to-see list since last year, but then I gave priority to Once Upon A Time and decided to wait and see if they gave Grimm a new season (I'm not sure my heart could stand another cancellation). So far I've seen three episodes, and loved what I saw. The plot is exactly my kind of plot: magic realism, detectives, gruesome fairytales, the whole Dresden Files song-and-dance. Let's add a main character with a serious case of Puppy Eyes, and a fierce, beautiful character as Aunt Marie. And also bees that are all guys except for the Queen, who looked like an extra from Pushing Daisies, and I love it when the details make sense and are bound to reality. Can't wait to see what else they have in store. But if they managed to make an entire episode about bees that didn't send me running up the walls in horror, it is definitely the beginning of a great friendship. ;)

Big news! We decided to upgrade our therapy sessions to twice a week. I had wanted to ask her for some time, but since my therapist works in two different hospitals, with terminal cancer patients, I simply thought she couldn't have the time. It turns out she wanted to ask me too, but she thought she had to wait for me to suggest it. So now it's going to be every wednesday and friday, unless something happens. And we talked for a whole hour of this five-minute dream I had last night. I knew dreams were important, I just hadn't realized how much.

I'm slowly putting together all the pieces of my first cosplay. It's going to be a female version of the Eleventh Doctor, the Pandorica scene with the mop and the fez, so I can use a bit of my own personal taste with the jacket and the skirt. It's definitely going to be a skirt. I still need to buy the jacket and the boots - I need to buy new boots, those ankle-high cute ones, and they would go perfectly with this cosplay. But for that I have to wait until September, there's only summer clothes and bathing suits in stores now. So far I got the fez, the braces, the bowtie is on the way, as I bought it on ebay yesterday. About that, I got the weirdest email from the seller. Usually it's "thanks for your order, we shipped it this morning". This guy went a bit overboard:

"Congratulation! It is our privilege and honour to inform you that your order has just been dispatched.

Our team of certified grabatologists had a little quarrel over who would actually handle your order but they came to an amicable decision to do it together. All 4 of them were literally walking across the floor each holding a corner of the products you ordered with the biggest smiles I have ever seen on their faces.

When the Royal Mail postal van arrived there were cheers and whistles as your package was given priority treatment and handed over ahead of the rest on a purple silk cushion.
They were talking about you for hours after the delivery van left and now all 4 of our grabatologists want to nominate you as their customer of the year.
"

I admire your style, guys. :D

Let's conclude with a video! This crazy person made a video of Call Me Maybe using Star Wars quotes. Just watch it, no words can really describe it:

I'm being predictable, I know, but my favourite part is everytime they say "Windu". :D

The second part of my cosplay is here! The other day I bought the black braces, and today this arrived, and it's now ridiculously obvious who I'm going to cosplay as, but yes, the game is still on. :D First one to guess, you get a cookie!

May I add how much I adore Village Hats? That's where I bought the deerstalker too, and the quality of these hats is astounding, for a very cheap price. And the hats arrive the very day after the order, wow.

Surprisingly, today another package arrived too, with a bracelet I ordered from Etsy not five days ago. I love that site, but usually shipping takes a lot longer than that.

So, here's the story behind this bracelet. On my first year back at university, when I was a cute little puppy, we had this wonderful professor who taught us Prehistoric Archaeology. It should have been boring, but the guy was so amazing it was our favourite course, and we sat in that classroom looking like those students in Indiana Jones' class. One of the first lessons, he tells us that the most important thing he could ever teach us, as future Archaeologists, is this:

"It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."

Then he asks us "who said that?". And there's this little shy voice, yours truly, answering "Sherlock Holmes?". And the guy smiles at me, and proceeds to explain to us how Sherlock Holmes got what the process of studying history and archaeology is all about, all in that simple sentence. Never bend facts to your theories, and be ready to be proven wrong again and again by new evidence, and enjoy the ride, because it's going to be bumpy.

So, this statement from A Scandal In Bohemia has a huge sentimental value to me (plus it was probably the first time I had ever spoken in class since the academic year had started), and when I saw this bracelet on Etsy, it just *had* to be mine. :D

It also has a map of the interior of 221b, so there's that too. ♥

It's small, very comfy, and it fits my wrist perfectly.

Totally random, but I've had Offenbach's Barcarolle in my head since I woke up, I wonder if I should add that to the dream journal, because it's just...stuck there. Not that I'm complaining, but it's been a few hours, I wish my mind would just change the tune.

Spent a lovely day with Tati, we walked on the beach trying to fight off our shared incoming cold by inhaling the fresh salty air, watched A Study In Pink for the 100th time, sang harmonies on Rock Band. The usual. ^^

Then I came home, and there were a couple of packages on my doorstep.

My Kindle is here! I called it "221b Baker Street" and downloaded every fic I had bookmarked on AO3 (bless that site), and then I got a ebook copy of the complete Sherlock Holmes stories too. It's very easy to use, and the background is a nice light grey one, perfect for someone with my eyesight problems. Now I can bring my favourite fanfics with me everywhere, I'm so happy. *_______*

And my deerstalker hat is here too! I wasn't expecting it before Easter, it was such a nice surprise! I obviously had to put it on right away, even if I bought it for display. It fits perfectly, it's warm and comfy. I can't for the life of me understand why Sherlock dislikes it so much. :D

For a picture of yours truly wearing a death frisbee, this way please. :D )

I love the XXX-Holic anime! The latest episode was simply awesome. I wish I had an mp3 of that piano music that plays while Watanuki is talking with the lady! And when he talked about his parents I got teary-eyed: this is so much my arc! ;_; I'll be really sad when this season is over...

Thanks, my dear [livejournal.com profile] lunalovegoddess for providing me with the song-they-played-at-the-funeral-in-Love-Actually! You're great! :****

If you hate me after what I say
Can't put it off any longer
Just gotta tell her anyway

Bye bye baby
Baby goodbye

Don't make me cry

You're the one girl in town I'd marry
Girl I'd marry you now if I were free
I wish it could be

I could love you but why begin it
'Cause there ain't any future in it
(She's got me but I'm not free so)

Bye bye baby
Baby goodbye
Bye bye baby
Don't make me cry

Wish I never had known you better
Wish I knew you before I met her
Gee how good it could be for me

Should have told her that I can't linger
There's a wedding ring on my finger

I tried to tidy up my manga shelf, but it's really getting too crowded. As on November I'll go with Tati to my very first Comic Convention (caaan't waaaaaiiiit), I'll try and sell something, as my complete Ayashi No Ceres (I need space for Berserk: sayonara, Ceres!). I do hope I'll find those volumes I still miss, as Nausicaa 1-2, and some CCS action figures (that would be the death of me!). I saw some publicity stills of four wonderful ones!

And guess what? First comicon --> first cosplay. Obviously, I'll go as TYOB!Subaru. And Tati as CCS!Sakura (with the school uniform). My, it's going to be embarassing. O_o I'll probably have to wear a "I'm Subaru-kun!" sign, so that people will know I'm in cosplay... XD
