nausicaa83: (<x-men> swiggity swag)
It turns out that if I order something from the USA it takes a whole month to get here. But, if I ask them to write what I spent on it outside the package, it takes only four days. What the hell.

It's more tea blends from AdagioTeas! I asked my therapist for permission, because after that panic attack last November I had to cut back on the caffeine, but she told me it was fine. And tea makes me so happy! I should definitely take a picture of my entire collection. *______*

Funny coincidence, this morning I finished my seven percent blend, the Sherlock one, the very first tea blend I bought from that website. When I finish a blend I cut out the label from the bag and put it in my day planner. Six labels in, it's turning into a scented scrapbook, I'm very proud of myself.

Yes, I am indeed a responsible adult. :D

Case in point, and because I was talking about it a few weeks back in the comments somewhere, here's a picture of 2005 Nausicaa, in Tunisy, doing that scene from The Gladiator. That's because we were on a university trip with my Archaeology class, and we had just been in the amphitheater where they shot some scenes of the movie. And because I was always a huge nerd. :D

It was shot with my dad's old camera, it's so vintage. :D
nausicaa83: (<sherlock> london calling)
Thanks to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] space_oddity_75 for linking me to this breathtaking video (in colour!) of London in 1927:

This footage was shot in 1927 and shows the old trams, open top buses and how policemen guided traffic in Hyde Park, Westminster, London Bridge and the approach to Trafalgar Square.

As an archaelogist, I'm weeping in joy at the incredible quality of the footage, that allows us to see so many wonderful details. As someone who loves London, I feel like a time-traveller, and I'm sitting here giggling and sniffing. And look at the clothes, the hats, the children, the cabs, I'm speechless.
nausicaa83: (<sherlock> perfection)
The second part of my cosplay is here! The other day I bought the black braces, and today this arrived, and it's now ridiculously obvious who I'm going to cosplay as, but yes, the game is still on. :D First one to guess, you get a cookie!

May I add how much I adore Village Hats? That's where I bought the deerstalker too, and the quality of these hats is astounding, for a very cheap price. And the hats arrive the very day after the order, wow.

Surprisingly, today another package arrived too, with a bracelet I ordered from Etsy not five days ago. I love that site, but usually shipping takes a lot longer than that.

So, here's the story behind this bracelet. On my first year back at university, when I was a cute little puppy, we had this wonderful professor who taught us Prehistoric Archaeology. It should have been boring, but the guy was so amazing it was our favourite course, and we sat in that classroom looking like those students in Indiana Jones' class. One of the first lessons, he tells us that the most important thing he could ever teach us, as future Archaeologists, is this:

"It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."

Then he asks us "who said that?". And there's this little shy voice, yours truly, answering "Sherlock Holmes?". And the guy smiles at me, and proceeds to explain to us how Sherlock Holmes got what the process of studying history and archaeology is all about, all in that simple sentence. Never bend facts to your theories, and be ready to be proven wrong again and again by new evidence, and enjoy the ride, because it's going to be bumpy.

So, this statement from A Scandal In Bohemia has a huge sentimental value to me (plus it was probably the first time I had ever spoken in class since the academic year had started), and when I saw this bracelet on Etsy, it just *had* to be mine. :D

It also has a map of the interior of 221b, so there's that too. ♥

It's small, very comfy, and it fits my wrist perfectly.

Totally random, but I've had Offenbach's Barcarolle in my head since I woke up, I wonder if I should add that to the dream journal, because it's just...stuck there. Not that I'm complaining, but it's been a few hours, I wish my mind would just change the tune.

Pompei again, one of my favourites. ^^

Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist. He's really good, so I'm not scared, I'm happy I get to do it before leaving for the holidays. About that, I'm really excited. I haven't seen my uncle since last easter, I can't wait!

On other news, there's still some snow on the ground. At night everything looks so bright and peaceful.

nausicaa83: (<excel saga> dancing with myself)
My epitaph... )

I'm waiting for my aunt to arrive in a couple of hours. I spent all the morning cleaning up, and getting her room ready (sort of...), after being horribly awaken by my cellphone playing Love Is All Around Me with the volume really cranked up. XD Today I should have gone to the hospital to get my exams results, but... well, I didn't feel like it, so I stayed home. Incredibly, I was rewarded, as my good-luck gift (from me to myself) for my cateract surgery arrived this morning: the Excel Saga Dvd Boxset! Hurrah! Never mind that they moved my cateract surgery to...march? After all I didn't know it when I ordered it. ;) The funniest thing about it is that it costed me just as much as the Dead Man's Chest dvd, only that this boxset contains five dvds, while the other one only two...

And on the shocking news front: just tell me it's a joke, 'kay?

- Back from yet another globetrotting adventure, Indiana Jones checks his mail and discovers that his bid for tenure has been denied.

That was so funny, and exactly what we always say back at the Department of Archaeology about Dr. Jones. We all love those movies, but hey, some scenes can really get on my nerves! XD Today's lesson: destroy the ancient temple so you can retrieve the little golden statue. WTF?

Though I agree you can't make an adventure movie about a real archaeologist, it would be too boring! XD
