nausicaa83: (<ni no kuni> lazy afternoon)
I'm finally feeling better. My period struck pretty hard, and I've been losing a lot more blood than usual. That means dizziness, nausea, and occasional headaches. Though it also means a very appreciated diet of eggs and meat and chocolate. Luckly tomorrow it should be over, because I need my blood inside my body, thank you very much.

I watched the new episode of Community, the first one after they fired Dan Harmon. Well, I liked it and I didn't like it. It felt... flat. Like someone was trying to imitate Community, but missing what this show is all about. There were the usual gags and spoofs, but they weren't functional to the story. They ignored much of the character development of the last episodes of the third season, especially with Abed. It felt like it was missing its heart. I'm going to watch the next episodes, but if it keeps being like this I'll just drop it and consider Community a three-season-long show.

And now, a meme!

My most recent love, it's April Smith and the Great Picture Show. The whole Songs for a Sinking Ship album is amazing, here's one of my favourites:

Speaking about Ni No Kuni, I just finished Hamelin, and it's SO GOOD. I literally have to pause it from time to time to squee out loud. It is just like I dreamed, like walking through a Ghibli movie. There was even a monster who was called Porco Grosso (squeeeee), and Marcassin looks just like a teenage Howl, lsdflsdgflkjfhgfhdg!!! ♥
nausicaa83: (<supernatural> torn apart)
In spite of real life stealing all my energies, it's time to do a nice fandom post! I missed doing them. ^^

First, all the diatribe with Community. The three final episodes aired last week, and they were superb. Amazing. They should have been aired one by one, they deserved more. We had an arcade game episode, an elaborate heist one, and the Finale. Yes, because shortly after learning that it was coming back for a fourth season, we had the horrible news that Sony fired Dan Harmon, the creator and showrunner. Now, with any other show, I'd say let's give the new season a chance. But Community is too much Dan Harmon's creature. Maybe what they'll do next will be a nice show, no doubt, but it will be a different show, with the same actors. What made Community so special was that it was unique. So, we had a wonderful run, three great years, and it's over. At least we had a nice finale, way better than what they did to Pushing Daisies.

Then, the Supernatural finale. My usual reaction to a SPN season finale is a sea of tears. They always leave me an emotional wreck. Last year's finale didn't make me cry, but it short-circuited my brain, and left me mumbling "what the actual fuck we're all doomed" to the screen for a good hour. This year, after singing and shouting along to Born To Be Wild (I love that song!), I had an ending full of enthusiastic "I KNEW IT" and throwing my fist in the air. Oh, I so knew it. And I'm so excited about the next season. And I'm actually happy I wasn't left an emotional crying wreck, for once. :D

I just found out the first Berserk dvd comes out in Japan tomorrow. That's the Egg Of The King one, that covers the first part of the Golden Age arc, and judging from the trailers, it's stunning. Not to mention, Berserk is my favourite manga. I love it so much it's part of my soul. I swear, the way I love that manga, it's not even funny. Years ago we had a tv series, it was mediocre, and they censored most of the violence out, while these movies look like they're faithful to the source. Thank you. It's a very mature story, there's no way you can weaken it to appeal to a wider audience without spoiling it all.

Back to my original point, with the dvd out, we'll finally have a subbed version! I can't wait to see it! \o/

nausicaa83: (<sherlock> now people will talk)
Today it's Star Wars day, so all together now,

May The Fourth Be With You!

I love saying that, it never gets old. :D

Today is also the 121th anniverary of the original Reichenbach fall, on May 4th 1891. So happy anniversary, Sherlock Holmes fandom, the fandom that waited, and waited, and waited some more! May it always be 1895 in our hearts. ;)

It's been a quiet uneventful day. Had to move my therapy session to next tuesday because my therapist got the flu, working in a hospital and everything. Man, I wouldn't last one day. Not sure I would have been able to go, though, because today is the second day of my period, and I ache everywhere. Plus the usual, nausea, headache, and dizziness. Ugh.

Anyway, the Vampire Diaries episode brightened up the day a lot, with its incredible plot twists. It felt like a two-hour-long episode, so much stuff happening, amazing. The season finale is going to blow my mind, I know it. And I especially loved that song right at the beginning, these guys sure know how to choose great songs. *________*

I'm praying the tv gods they'll give Community a new season. Yesterday's episode felt so much like a final episode, it was heartbreaking. And I read some great theories online, concerning the characters from the evil timeline interacting with our timeline, if that's true, then it's definitely another season finale that's going to blow my mind. :D

I'm about to go to my weekly therapy lesson, and I just got a text that there's going to be Acqua Alta. Marvellous. And there's only one possible route to get to the clinic from here. Let's cross fingers.

I just watched the latest Community episode, Virtual Systems Analysis, and I have to leave a comment here, because it was the best Community episode, and one of the best tv episodes I've seen. It was perfect. They talked about autism, loneliness, empathy, and they did it without being condescending, they didn't sugar-coat it and they were never cheesy. It was smart, full of character development, and affectionate. Great, great job.

And since we're talking about perfection already, this is most definitely THE perfect fanvideo.

Not only it has great, professional editing, the soundtrack and the dialogues flow like one, but it doesn't butcher the cinematography like 90% of the fanvids out there. It shows you how beautiful this series is, from every point of view. God, I can't wait for season 5.

Spent the day at Tati's, we watched The Great Game, complained a lot about the cold, listened to the Life on Mars soundtrack, and read on the couch. As in, she read The Magic Of Deduction on her netbook, while I read Game of Thrones on my Kindle. It was a lot like 99% of my childhood, but way more technological. :D

I only meant to read the first chapter, but then I got dragged in and kept reading at the bus station, on the bus back home, at my desk while having tea and biscuits, and guess what I'm going to do for the rest of the evening. Those books are way addictive, even if I already know everything that's going to happen because I saw the TV show. Great writing indeed. ♥

Back home there was a surprise waiting in my mailbox, something I purchased on Etsy a few days ago, and that I wasn't expecting so soon:

Aren't they the cutest thing ever? I bought them here, and they're even cuter in person! :D They're sturdy enough, although not so much that they could damage a thin page (like those metal bookmarks they sell everywhere). I'm so happy! *_____*

During The Great Game I had this sort of epiphany. I was whispering every line in every scene (how does Tati put up with me, I have no idea) but then I realized I need to watch the second season again and again, until I reach that same level of nerdy, crazy-obsessed knowledge of the show. There's too much disparity in my brain between the two seasons, and that's every bit not good. Yes, it's mostly because Reichenbach breaks my heart but that's not a valid excuse! *mentally slaps herself over the head* I must be strong and obsessed and batshit crazy and learn every quote of the new episodes too, until it's all one coherent big ball of wibbly wobbly sherlockey unison in my head (see icon for visual aid). And maybe stop referring to them as "new" episodes while I'm at it.

(Also, because of Community, I now feel the need to watch Blade and Blade II. Kickboxing vampire movies, here I come!)

nausicaa83: (<ashes to ashes> and when she wakes up)
So, I'm in the supermarket trying to decide what I want to have for dinner tonight, when on the radio they start playing Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I start humming along, and after a few seconds I notice that a woman who's standing behind me looking at the cheeses is singing along too, very quietly. I move closer, and that's when I notice that a guy a few feet away from us is humming along too. I don't think they noticed, because they both looked pretty deep in thought, like they didn't even know they were doing it. Still, it was one of those crazy this-totally-looks-like-a-tv-commercial moments I love so much. :D

Update on the loud neighbour: yesterday he watched tv up until 11 pm, when he turned the volume down, and at midnight he turned it off. That's the wonderful sound of respect. *_____*

Fandom update, The Vampire Diaries is awesome and in two weeks this season will be over and they can't do this to me. The Big Bang Theory is still adorable and I still hate Leonard's stupid new girlfriend. Also, Community is amazing and I'm practicing Troy's and Abed's handshake because I'm a nerd.

And tomorrow it's Supernatural *and* Doctor Who day, I love saturdays. \o/

Found this on tumblr a couple of days ago, and whoever did it is a genius. XD

Short update on the tv-shows I'm following, because I'm hungry, waiting for the water to boil (pasta, obviously), and mostly because I'm bored.

The Vampire Diaries: Caroline is the most adorable character ever, and I want to hug her and she has such a sweet singing voice. Also, Damon is awesome. Six bedrooms in the house, the only thing missing there was "oh snap!".

Chuck: Sarah just gets cuter and cuter. Seriously, that girl makes me question my eterosexuality every week. And the bank robbery sequence was amazing.

Community: never mind politics, we're getting another Modern Warfare episode this season, AND Josh Holloway from Lost. Also, I love Abed like there's no tomorrow.

The Big Bang Theory: please get a move on with the Penny storyline, it's dragging too much. The karaoke scene was hysterical, though. :D

Supernatural: how can you describe perfection? You can't. You just go back and re-watch it a bazillion times. Also, I'm kinda shipping Balthazar/Castiel now. Ehm. Hola, Mishamigos.

nausicaa83: (<scott pilgrim> drummer heart)
Today we had a beautiful, sunny and really cold day. My cold is completely gone, and lately I've been drinking more tea than when I was in Japan. My back is doing better, and it's only two days until I go back to the gym.

On fandom news, I'm up-to-date with the latest Community episode, loving it, and shipping Jeff/Annie like crazy. Does that make me a bad adult? Probably, yes. And I love Abed so much I have no words. It's such a funny, witty, and crazy show, I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something new to see. Also, no laughing track, and god, that makes me so happy, because I do hate laughing tracks, they're so distracting.

I also just noticed that the next episode of Primeval is the last one until next fall, and we have so many loose ends there, I have no idea where they are going to leave us. Probably on another crazy cliffhanger. I like this new season, but since I find Matt's character truly boring (mostly because the actor has one facial expression, and I mean it, just the one) I'm really missing season 3.

I'm practicing the drums on Rock Band a lot, since they announced they're going to release the whole London Calling album by The Clash in a few days. It's going to be legen-wait for it-dary! Based on previous experiences with said band it's also going to be hard as hell for the drummer, but who cares! :D
