nausicaa83: (<person of interest> pick a winner)
Here I am with another cute meme because I'm waiting for a call from my aunt and I have some time to kill. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] harriet_yuuko. ♥

Choose five of your favourite (and may I add 'current') fandoms

First character you fell in love with
The character you never expected to love so much
The character you're most like
The character you'd slap
The character you'd sleep with
Your five favourite characters
Your OTP
The pairing you love but isn't your OTP
A pairing you hate
Who's more likely to win the Hunger Games
Who's less likely to win the Hunger Games

Person of Interest, Cabin Pressure, Star Trek (reboot), Supernatural, Avengers (MCU). )

This was fun. :D No call yet, I'll just go and have lunch then. ^^

My latest order from RedBubble arrived this morning! This time it was a shared order with Tati, so that we could divide shipping costs. Here's what I ordered:

The Dammit Jim shirt makes me laugh like an idiot every single time. :D I love hoodies, I have many fandom ones, and the Cabin Pressure hoodie, that I ordered from RedBubble last year, is the lightest one, perfect for Spring and Autumn, and that means I use it a lot. So I needed a similar one, and this Enterprise logo was adorable. *____* The Pink Floyd/Star Trek shirt really needs no explanations. ;)

Individual close-ups under the cut )

And here's what Tati ordered:

They're all so cute! *_____*

I really love RedBubble. The quality of shirts and hoodies is great: they're soft and let the skin breathe. The prints are top-quality, they're not sticky and the images feel smooth to the touch, part of the shirt, not glued on. And the hoodies are soft and light. *___* Sure, it takes one whole month for packages to get here, but I'm patient. ^^
nausicaa83: (<cabin pressure> sir's mind)
Experts say the second major heat wave of the year will hit this weekend, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees. That means I bought groceries like for a seige, and even cleaned the air conditioning filters again, just in case. I'm ready. *cocks shotgun*

And because the universe has a weird sense of humour, today was also the day my Cabin Pressure wrist warmers arrived. They're adorable, but they made me squirm a lot while taking this picture. When it's 34 degrees outside it's hard to believe I'll ever wear wool again. :D

So now I have the hat and I have the straps on my arm. I'm all set! \o/

A few other wonderful things arrived. First, a Sherlock comic made by some of my favourite artists, telling the story of Sir Boast-A-Lot. Awesome. And the two seasons of Interrobang Studios' fantastic webcomic Ensign Sue Must Die. It's the hilarious and absolutely brilliant story of the Star Trek crew dealing with a new ensign, Mary Sue, and their attempts at getting rid of her. In the second season the Mary Sues cause a laceration in space and time and The Tenth Doctor, Sherlock Holmes, and many other beloved characters have to help Kirk's crew find and imprison the Sues. In Pokemon balls.

Seriously, just read it, it's fantastic. :D

Also, new blog banner! Yay!

I'm just leaving these here.

My aunt has reached the "I'm not mad, just disappointed" stage in her fight against my mug collection, I consider it a victory. Although she had to agree this one is brilliant. :D

This morning I had therapy. My therapist greeted me with a happy hug, sat down and asked me "what's new?". I braced myself, and answered "today's my sister's birthday". She freezed, got her pad out, two pens, checked that her phone was off, grabbed some candy from the desk and said "I'm ready". I couldn't help it and burst into laughter, and we had a fantastic session, with a few tears, and a lot of progress going. I love her expression when she points out the progress I've made, she always has this pinched look like she's trying very hard not to look smug or burst into a smile, it's really cute. :D

Towards the end of the session I told her about my Brilliant Day yesterday, and when I mentioned the movie her expression got very pensive, and I thought she was going for one of her hard questions, the ones where I have to think a lot before answering, and then she said "Star Trek? is that the one with the starships and the... pointy ears?". I must have had a baffled expression, because she went on "I think it was on tv years ago" "yeah, I was 11" "then I was 21, but I can't remember much, sorry..." "sorry?! Do you know what this means?? I get to tell you all about it! There are explorers, and they have starships, and they travel to meet new civilizations, and you should really take notes here, there'll be a test later".

I do love therapy. :D

Back home I was bit worse for wear. Not to mention it's the second day of my period, and a very cold day too, so I put on two layers of pajamas and hid under the blankets with Sakura, listening over and over again to Blitzen Trapper's Furr, my "hug in a cup" song. Just a few minutes ago the courier rang, with a package that wasn't due to arrive until next week. Sometimes the stars do align in magic ways, I guess.

The first time in fifteen years that gifts enter my house on this day. I could be so daring to call it 'progress'. ^^

Still, I am tired. And still bleeding. Cup of tea and a nap with the cat, definitely!
nausicaa83: (<cardcaptor sakura> fangirling)
I just had a fantastic day. First, I had breakfast with Tati. I went to see her yesterday, first time in two weeks, we had SO MUCH to talk about. We watched Teen Wolf and I told her about The Tempest and we listened to the Star Trek soundtrack together. It was great. ♥

I came home at noon and since I didn't have anything to do for the day I thought "what the hell", hopped on a bus and went to the cinema to watch Star Trek Into Darkness again. The movie was to start at 5.30 pm, so I got there at 5, and crashed into the owner, an elderly gentleman I had had a lovely conversation with the other day, who was taking a smoke break. He looked surprised to see me, and asked me if I had come back to see Star Trek again. I replied I wanted to give myself a gift, and that I had loved the movie and wanted to put my brand new Cinema Club card to use (I bought it just the other day). And that most of all, I just couldn't think of anything better to do on a free afternoon than going to see a movie I loved at the cinema. He went right back inside, straight to the cashier, and told her that I was to get in free, as a gift.

So I sat in the same seat as the other day, and this time I wasn't alone anymore, but with ten other people who watched the movie in reverent silence except for one woman sobbing by the end, and I loved it even more than the first time. I cried again, even if I had promised myself not to. I'm a grown-up! I do my own taxes! And I cry like a baby at movies, what can I say.

After thanking them all again I took the bus back home, and stopped only to get shawarma for dinner. The new cashier there was a very pretty girl. She smiled at me when I came in, then did a double take, and gave me this wonderful, bright smile, like she was so happy to see me. I must say at first I thought she had recognized me from somewhere, but I just couldn't place her face, and then, after three other wonderful smiles and requests to eat there instead that at home, I realized that she was flirting with me.

So, to recap:

-breakfast with my best friend.
-free movie.
-a beautiful girl hitting on me.

I must say, this day gets a 10/10 from me. *_______*

IT'S HERE. My new iPod is here! The other day I downloaded a nice little program called iExplorer that allowed me to copy all the music/playlists from my old iPod into my laptop's iTunes, so it took me just a couple of minutes to move everything to the new one. Since the old one was called "G-ERTI", I thought it would be nice to continue the "fictional flying machines" tradition, and christened this one "Enterprise (NCC-1701)". :D

It's an iPod Nano 7th Generation, so it can play videos again (G-ERTI was 6th generation, only music). It is incredibly small and light, sort of like a credit card. I've already ordered a lovely padded case on etsy, until it arrives I'll use a little bag I found in a drawer that I'm 99% sure used to contain jewellery.

Having ordered it from the apple website I could have a free engraving too. It was either this or "sometimes when you fall, you fly" from The Sandman, but this quote seemed more apt for a device that contains music. ^^ I didn't really like any of the colours except for this one, and I'm in a "Hawkeye purple" phase anyway. ;)

It also came with weird headphones that looked like something Ziggy Stardust would use. I'm torn between keeping the old ones, that I bought more than ten years ago, or try these scifi ones. Uhm. I'll probably take them both and switch them when I'm on the bus if the new ones bother me.
nausicaa83: (<star trek> khan)
It's the longest day of the year, my favourite one! And yet, sadly, this morning my iPod, my good ol' G-ERTI, had a technical malfunction. Probably my fault for giving it that name. Anyway, the volume thingy got stuck (yes, I am a creature of immense mechanical aptitude too), and according to the website it would cost at least 100 euros to get it fixed. In other words, new iPod. I ordered one from the website, so that I could have the engraving too. Pictures to follow when it gets here, probably on monday morning.

In the afternoon I wore my Tony Stark shirt and went to the cinema to see Star Trek Into Darkness, because here in Italy it came out last week. And yet I had managed to avoid any and all spoilers, go me. By the way, I chose the Tony Stark shirt because I don't have a Star Trek one, and that's appalling, considering I've loved Star Trek since I was 11. RedBubble, here I come.

Spoiler-free review! I loved it. I absolutely loved it. The first part was good, but nothing special, but the second part was fantastic, and made me cry and jump in my seat and feel like a kid again, watching the original series on my old tv (the one that exploded - long story). There are only two major flaws that I can see (well, three, but the third is a huge spoiler, so it goes under the cut): first, that annoying, completely pointless shot of Carol in her underwear. It had no reason to be there, except that she has boobs and we need to see them. And it makes even less sense considering that she's a competent, smart character with a compelling storyline. So what the hell. The second flaw is that we didn't really get to learn enough of John Harrison's past. I'm not asking for flashback, just a couple of dialogues more would have helped with understanding other characters' reactions to him.

Also, Benedict Cumberbatch was extraordinary. I mean, I already knew he was good, he is one of my favourite actors for a reason, but here he was... absolutely incredible. Way above the other actors, who are all really good. He's just completely on a league of his own. Holy shit. And I watched the dubbed version (an amazing Simone D'Andrea, who really managed to re-create his speech patterns), I can only imagine what the original version must be. My head will probably explode.

Off to spoilerrific land! )

And now, off to dinner! \o/
nausicaa83: (<breaking bad> walt and jesse)
And the first half of the fifth season of Breaking Bad is over. Or, as I like to call it, the fifth season. Because if I have to wait a whole year for 8 new episodes, I'm going to call them "sixth season". Just saying.

I'm going to let my inner Arthur Shappey free here, and say it was BRILLIANT. No other words come to mind. Two iconic, extraordinary montages, and one nail-biting final cliffhanger all wrapped up in one amazingly written episode. The next season is going to be such a chess game, I can already taste it. Can't wait. And I realized halfway through the episode that I can finally order all the previous seasons on bluray, even if they're region A, because hello new bluray player. So happy! ♥

A few weird things that happened to me lately, in an otherwise uneventful week. A girl at the gym yesterday approached me and asked me about my summer. While we were chatting I noticed she was very nervous, and after a few minutes I realized why. She was talking to me like a teen talks to an adult, trying really hard to sound smart and engaging. For the first time in my life, I realized I was on the recieving end of the "awkward conversation with an adult". So then I noticed the girls at the gym consider me part of the Adults group, even if the Adults (who are coincidentally all friends of mine, and all over 55) consider me one of the Girls. So weird. :D

My Galaxy Quest bluray arrived today! I opened it, and there was a sheet with a coupon for the 2009 Star Trek movie. I found it very, very amusing. :D I can't believe I hadn't heard of this movie until two weeks ago, when somebody posted a gifset of the crunchy-chompy hallway scene on tumblr. It's witty, funny, touching, and it has some of my favourite actors ever! For all that I complain about tumblr (no space for real discussions or comments, full of kids, the epitome of the "serious business" attitude) it made me discover so many great movies and tv shows. ♥

I finally gave in and watched the Sherlock pilot. How can something be so awesome and full of WTF moments at the same time? XD I'm really glad they re-shoot it, but I still loved it, maybe because I know the Study In Pink by ear, and it kinda made it hilarious to watch. Like the vampire!Sherlock sequence. Guys, you were right, it had to be watched even only for that scene. It was Batman and Captain Jack from Torchwood and that chick from Underworld all at the same time, it was that amount of awesome. XD

And I wasn't expecting to see Luigi from Ashes to Ashes! ♥ And Anderson with a beard! That's going to haunt my dreams, I know it. And OMG, the jeans. How hot was Sherlock dressed like that? Let me count the ways. I missed John's jumpers, though. Sexier, but not as cuddly.

Only thing I actually wish they had kept? How Sherlock got who the killer was right away. It took him forever to figure it out in the Study In Pink, seriously, I wanted to hit him in the head with the skull! Other than that, I completely agree with everything they changed: Sherlock being less friendly and more sociopathic, Mycroft, the new locations, and even if the jeans were awesome, I have to admit the final costumes work better for the character.

And for those of you who don't care about Sherlock, here, have a Star Trek video!

Probably the best Kirk/Spock video ever. :D
