News and links, for I'm stuck here for another couple of hours and I'm bored. :D

The biggest Sherlock community, [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc is on hiatus. The community in itself was great, the users are amazing, and I met so many friends there, but I wasn't the only one who had a problem with the mods' administration, and now they decided to shut everything down for a while. So, for anyone who needs them, here's a bunch of helpful links for all your fandom needs. ^^

On Tumblr
An Army Doctor
Fanfic Recs
Blanket For Your Shock

My personal recs would be my Bookmark Page on AO3, obviously.

And my Tumblr is here, just in case. I think Tumblr isn't a proper instrument for a fandom: it's great to share links and recs, but you can't properly comment and discuss with other users, at least not without spamming everyone, and I'm convinced that should be the core of it. But yes, if you're looking for links and recs, that is definitely the place now.

I'm trying to follow everyone from my f-list on AO3 and tumblr too, but in case I somehow missed you, drop me a line with a link here. ♥

----

On real life news, nothing much happening, but for Sakura still taking her syrup, and me crossing all fingers that it works because if I have to carry her another time to the vet during the next week she'll just pack her bags and leave. Definitely.

And Game of Thrones keeps getting better and better with every new episode, while making me cry for minor characters I didn't even notice I loved so much until now.

Tomorrow I'm going to visit a couple of friends I haven't seen in months, I'm so happy! We have so many things to talk about, and I missed them a lot! *___________*

Thank you for the list of links! I heard others were having problems with the moderators. I don't know why it has to be so hard. I would like to look for other places to read Sherlock fic because I think just shutting it down is ridiculous.

You're welcome! There are so many wonderful communities out there, they deserve all the publicity they can get. *_____*

I had my own problems with the moderators there - first when they insisted to put "slash" in fic warnings and attacked everyone who didn't, and then when they got absolutely batshit crazy with the #believeinsherlock campaign. I'm sure a hiatus would do everyone a world of good. They'll get some rest, which I assume they needed, and we have so many comms to explore. \o/

Eh, capita spesso in realtà.

XD

The best thing that came out of this is that I had no idea there were so many fascinating comms here on lj, and now they're going to get so many new users. *__________*

All this "fandom is serious business" attitude over there was getting so old. I always say, even when talking to myself: "did you find the cure for cancer? did you invent the pacemaker? no? then get off your high horse, it's not important"

It always helps to have some perspective in life, and I'm sorry to say it, but the mods over there completely lost it when they started attacking users because of the #believeinsherlock campaign. =_=

For me it was obligatory beta week. I don't tend to use betas unless I'm required to do so for a challenge so I was really tempted to create a sock account with an anagram of my username and credit that. In the end I just waited to post, but yeah, you've got it in one with their 'fandom is srs bsnss' mentality.

YES, THAT TOO. I can't believe I had forgotten about it. What was that all about? It made no sense, and it only felt an awful lot like bullying the other kids in the playground. Like when I was in kindergarten, and there was this kid who decided all the rules of the games, and we couldn't play in the yard unless we did it the way she wanted. Except that she was 5, while they don't have the same excuse.

I couldn't believe that beta week either! I thought, are they just trying to discourage people from posting? As an avid fanfic reader, I don't require someone have a beta for pete's sake! I was pissed because I'd rather read someone's sweet little h/c peice that has some typos in it than never read it at all because it wasn't beta'd. I can live with typos, missed grammer, whatever, and for some people English is not their first language. This was a fan site, right? Not a major publishing company.

Sherlockbbc was the first and most of the time the only community I visited constantly. The place is great to discuss and to find some fab artworks and craft-stuff and FanFictions and stuff.

But it became "too much" for me, to check every entry every day, so I stopped visiting this site, just had look from time to time.

I think it must be hard work to run a community like that... but what happened about the "ibelieveinsherlock"-thing? The mods of the community attacked the fandom, because they are doing something like this? Didn't hear about that, but it doesn't sound very nice :/ Cause I think "ibelieveinsherlock" is a very nice and funny idea!

From: [identity profile] nausicaa83.livejournal.com
The main problem was that they decided to make it a moderated community. That is, they had to check and approve every single entry, with over 11000 users. It's absolutely insane, no other big community does that. Anyway, they started having some debatable rules, and even banned some users who didn't follow them. I didn't like the attitude, but as Sheldon Cooper says, cathedra mea regulae meae, so I let it go.

As soon as the #believeinsherlock thing started, they made a few angry posts, that it was illegal, that spraypainting walls is a crime (they sort of made it sound like slaughtering a kid, but anyway), and that if anyone had even tried to submit a entry about that campaign they would have been banned forever and ever because they're bad fans and they make angels cry. Or at least that's the general tone of those posts, definitely over-the-top. Never mind that Steven Moffat himself tweeted about #believeinsherlock, and he was happy about it and the free publicity they got.

I think to the core it was simply a matter of "this is serious business". They acted like they were the fandom equivalent of Moses, having the keys to the Sherlock Fandom and deciding who should be in and who should be out. Ok, that makes them sound like Moses and Noah. You get the idea. :D

I think fandom should be happy-go-lucky, with a place for everyone, all you need is love love is all you need. Anything more than that, and it becomes petty bullying. It's stupid, but it can still hurt people.

lol that place... I checked it a lot for fics but the thing is it's not a fic comm, it's a general comm for Sherlock and there were hardly any discussions there, mostly fic. In the posts they made for discussions there were hardly comments. I get it that a place with so many people needs strict rules but I think they were a little up-tight and the huge rule section with the red font was a turn-off. Why put it on the top there? Put it in the info page or something.

Maybe they should said no fics, icons etc here like in ontd_football, and make it a comm for news, discussions and fun. ontd_football has a lot of members and the posts are not moderated. Though that place is no fun anymore but that doesn't really have to do with that.

You're right, it was so hard lately to have some good discussions about the show there. The best I had were on private journals. They did get lost with all the rules, it was becoming the fandom equivalent of the first half of Full Metal Jacket. ^^"

Thanks for the links! I couldn't believe it when I saw the comm was on hiatus - it's such a big community. I hope the break helps, I have found the mods to be a tad OTT at times. Incidentally, talking of places for your fandom needs, I've just started this message board - http://slashfiction.socialparody.com/forumlist - so anyone who wants to share Sherlock fic, etc, there is welcome ^_^
