The week of this year's dreaded medical exams is finally here. It started the other day with a check-up with the ophtalmologist who performed surgery on my left eye back in 2007 thus saving my eye. As it turns out there's a small spot in my right retina that needs to be checked every year, and that'll need laser surgery further on up the road, but other than that I'm fine. I also got a lot of compliments for my diet (lots of water and vitamins), and for my positive attitude! That's because I spent the two hours in the waiting room calming down a woman who had absolutely nothing, but was deadly frightened anyway. When I told the story later to my therapist she joked I had missed my calling, "calming people down before medical exams". She was joking, but hey, I gotta say that's kind of a personal gift of mine. :D

In other news yesterday I had a haircut, and when I walked out I saw a horse-drawn carriage happily going down the road, with two men in tuxedos and top hats on it, just enjoying the day. It was both weird and lovely!

The new computer hasn't shown any new signs of collapse since the Big Scare the other day, so I'm slowly installing all my favourite programs. I finally found a nice free program that lets me record music from 8tracks without needing keygens or codecs, so I'm downloading Winter Soldier fanmixes like crazy. *_____*

I'm feeling like doing my best Mushu impersonation, I'm aliiiiiveeeeee! I spent the weekend slowly reintegrating vegetables and dairy products into my diet. Yesterday I decided I wanted to bake something, but ended up making my favourite dessert, which is a cold one, no ovens involved. I call it Dolce Turco (Turkish Dessert), because my mom is from Sicily. In other parts of Italy they call it Chocolate Salami. Either way, it's the best. ^^

The longest part is breaking the biscuits, so I sat down in front of my computer and watched a Blackadder episode with a bowl full of biscuits in my lap. By the end of the episode, I had finished. There's two of them because it's just I only know the amounts to make chocolate salami for a bunch of people, and I'd only know what to make half of once I've made it and once I've made it I've made it. So there. :D

In the evening I went to the gym. I was planning on taking it slowly and all, and yet ten minutes in my blood pressure dropped so much I almost faceplanted on the floor. I wobbled outside, in the little lounge with the couch, where a friend of mine was reading a book. She drove us there but she wasn't feeling well, so she was waiting for us to finish. As it happens, she didn't get to read anything, because I ended up with my head on her lap, and one of the managers of the gym bought me chocolates, and we had the loveliest conversation. Twenty minutes later I went back inside for the last relaxation exercises.

In the words of a certain mighty sky god, I may have very slightly overestimated how fine it would be. Today I'm still feeling ditzy, but a lot better. Plus I have all that chocolate salami waiting for me, and chocolate is the best for blood pressure. *_____*

Off-topic note, In Our Bedroom After The War by Stars is the best post-finale Thorin/Bilbo song out there. Just saying. ♥

Weird problem of the day: thanks to tumblr I just found out, through some behind-the-scenes pictures, that Andrew Scott and Ben Whishaw are starring in a movie together. That's two actors I adore, so I had to learn more about it, release dates, if it's a movie or a play or a tv series, anything. The problem? The movie's title is "Cock". And I'm pretty sure if I tried to google any combination of "cock" "ben whishaw" and "andrew scott" I wouldn't get the results I'd be looking for. Drat.

I said it was a problem, I didn't say it wasn't funny. ;)

I'll just sit here and wait for more infos to drop on my lap. Tumblr can be very useful from time to time.

The fog is back. The fog here in Venice can be thicker than in any movie set in Victorian London, there are times when I can't see my own hands stretched in front of me. It's beautiful in that eerie, it's-time-for-a-ghost-story way, when looked at from my window, with a cup of tea in my hand, but it's very annoying when one has to leave the house. It looks like the fog is here to stay, it's going to be a very annoying week of buses going ten miles an hour, and arriving late everywhere. The bright side to it is the childlike, adorable awe of my aunt, who has never lived in foggy towns, and is absolutely enthralled by it, even if a bit scared too. ^^

I think I should be doing a Skyfall fanmix, I have so many ideas, but they aren't very coherent. For example, this is my crack-ish Silva theme song, and this is my serious Silva theme song. Both make perfect sense in my head. :D

My aunt went back home yesterday, so it's back to same ol' same ol'. We walked together to the station, I took the bus to Tati's, and I spent the day with her, which helped a lot with fighting the inevitable wave of loneliness that hits everytime my aunt leaves. At least she's supposed to come back here in October, it's not a long wait. ^^

Back at Tati's, I had a lovely time. We watched the first two episodes of Teen Wolf together, and she loved it, so it's another fandom we get to share! Yes! Speaking of which, here's a wonderful Teen Wolf fanmix, although be warned as there are huge spoilers for the second season. It's a song for every major character, 21 songs total, and Papa Stilinski got Badly Drawn Boy's Minor Incident. Mama McCall got a cover of Ben Folds' Still Fighting It as sung by a woman. Absolute perfection. ♥

When I came back, there were two packages (and a couple of bills, but let's focus on the packages here) waiting on my doorstep. One from Etsy, one from Cafè Press.

This Etsy shop has bracelets from book pages. This one is from The Hound of The Baskervilles, one can read the words "Holmes, Dartm-, Baskerv-, beast, Watson, hound, Mire, savage". My old Supernatural bracelet that I wore everyday for more than two years is nearly destroyed, and I had to take it off, but my arm felt naked, so I looked for something that I could wear everyday (in the shower, no pointy stuff that I could stick in my eye while sleeping) but would still look awesome in a very nerdy way. This one is perfect. And it came wrapped in a Jane Eyre page too. ♥

From Café Press, a Moriartea cup. So glad this one arrived today, or my aunt would have strangled me for bringing more cups into this house. :D But c'mon, how could I not? It's amazing, and I keep giggling everytime I look at it.

In a couple of weeks I'll go back to the gym. The last three years I never used a proper gym bag, just the first large bag I could put my hands on, mostly because I'm lazy as hell. I settled on a pretty pink bag which I bought for the beach, and the other girls teased me a lot about it (in a playful way, obviously). Anyway I knew I needed to buy a real gym bag this year, and when I was shopping for the Moriartea cup I saw they had gym bags too. I fell in love with this one right away. I absolutely love the shushing faces! :D

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I have a Souvenir Programme to get to. I just finished downloading yesterday's episode, and I can't wait to listen to it! \o/

This is it. It took me three weeks of sorting files, browsing my Sherlock gallery, re-reading my favourite fanfics for inspiration, and it's finally here. My first, very autobiographical fanmix.

The idea behind this fanmix is simple: unite all those songs that make me think of Sherlock in the same folder. Because of the lyrics, because of the music, because of a fanfic: there are many reasons why these songs hold such a special place in that part of my heart devoted to this wonderful show.

This way for song titles, lyrics, and personal rambling. )

Can't wait to hear your comments. ^^

I'm back for a few days! Highlights of the last few days:

* Tati and I finished the fifth season of Supernatural. That final episode still reaches the same abysmal level of heartbreaking everytime I watch it, alone or in company. So now it's time for a sixth season marathon, and then we'll see what to watch next. Maybe The Vampire Diaries?

* I'm halfway through The Book Of Lost Things, and it is amazing. Everything I love in a story, I can't put it down. I do hope it has a happy ending, because otherwise it would really break my heart. I feel so much for you, fictional characters! Even the communist dwarves! Especially them!

* I'm downloading lots of fanmixes at [livejournal.com profile] oldfriends and [livejournal.com profile] erik_charles. So many songs I didn't know, I love how fanmixes help me broad my horizons. Or even re-discover songs I've always loved, adding new meanings to them. Like this one, which is so Xavier/Magneto it's actually scary. (I chose an acoustic version because it was even more depressing this way. You're welcome.)

* My cellphone is slowly dying. I bought it five years ago, and lately the batteries last two days tops, even less if I make a couple of phonecalls. I have no idea what kind of cellphone to buy. I don't like the ones with incredibly tiny buttons, because with my nails (all covered in gel and glitter) they're impossible to use. I was thinking of buying an iPhone, because my aunt has one and it's really pretty. And then buy a pink cover and stroll around like the crazy fangirl I am and pretend I'm talking on the phone with Moriarty.

So, um, any suggestions?
