nausicaa83: (<sherlock> perfection)
Spent a lovely day with Tati, we walked on the beach trying to fight off our shared incoming cold by inhaling the fresh salty air, watched A Study In Pink for the 100th time, sang harmonies on Rock Band. The usual. ^^

Then I came home, and there were a couple of packages on my doorstep.

My Kindle is here! I called it "221b Baker Street" and downloaded every fic I had bookmarked on AO3 (bless that site), and then I got a ebook copy of the complete Sherlock Holmes stories too. It's very easy to use, and the background is a nice light grey one, perfect for someone with my eyesight problems. Now I can bring my favourite fanfics with me everywhere, I'm so happy. *_______*

And my deerstalker hat is here too! I wasn't expecting it before Easter, it was such a nice surprise! I obviously had to put it on right away, even if I bought it for display. It fits perfectly, it's warm and comfy. I can't for the life of me understand why Sherlock dislikes it so much. :D

For a picture of yours truly wearing a death frisbee, this way please. :D )

A bit late, I know, but here's a picture of my nails! I asked Martina for something British since I was leaving in a couple of days for London, and she came up with this:

I love it. :D

Today I finally gave up and bought a Kindle. Summer is coming, and Tati's moving to a nearby town for her job, and I'm going to visit her every other day, and I need something to help me carry my favourite fanfics with me. Yes, it was meant for e-books, but I'm going to use it mainly for fanfics. I do love AO3 and their download options. ♥

And I forgot to write this in the big ass London post, but I did in fact listen to Cabin Pressure on the plane. On both planes, actually, and the experience was absolutely... brilliant! Mostly because the Captain kept calling the Cabin Crew on the Intercom in the background. :D

Also, new layout and text for the comments! It took me a while to come up with a nice option for that, and I'm so proud of myself. :D

A stupid headache knocked me out all afternoon. More like a migraine, and I'm not really used to that, so I got really cranky. Took me one pill of ketoprofen and a good hour lying down in a dark room with my right arm over my eyes to feel better. Now I feel like I ran a marathon, but at least there's no more pain, and my head feels so light and empty. Good.

So, instead of a book I recommend let's go with a book I didn't like at all. I'm currently reading Fallen by Lauren Kate. I picked it up because I needed some light reading for when I have to wait in line at my doctor's, or at the post office, but it turned out to be even lighter than I thought. Too much purple prose, too little content. It's hundreds of pages that are supposed to be character development in the author's mind, but it's just beating around the bush. Boring. I'm actually rooting for the evil shadows to eat the protagonist's face. Bit not good, but that would speed up the story a little.

Instead, I have a recommendation on the FanFic front. It's Lacuna by colored_ink. The fandom is Sherlock, the pairing Sherlock/John, and I'm not going to say anything else because I don't want to spoil it. It's great, moving, gripping, the characters are complex and realistic, and it's just the right side of angsty without making you want to throw your laptop out of a window. ^^

By reading this fic for the hundredth time:

Whole and Unbroken by [livejournal.com profile] lotherington. Something dictates that John and Sherlock can only exist together every leap day, but the connection their hearts have wants otherwise. Magical realism.

And you should all be reading it too, because it's amazing.

Nausicaa out.

The amazing [livejournal.com profile] stardust_made wrote this beautiful Sherlock fanfic for me:

// The Allure of the English Countryside //

It's absolutely perfect, and I'm jumping up and down all over the room with joy. Such a wonderful present! I'm so happy! ♥

Best week ever indeed. \o/

First things first, thanks to all of you for the birthday greetings, you're all amazing and you brighten up my day and my inbox. Love you, guys! :******

day two • a picture
day three • a book/ebook/fanfic
day four • a website
day five • a youtube clip
day six • a quote
day seven • whatever tickles your fancy

A book? Go and read everything Jim Butcher wrote. That's what I'm doing lately, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Fanfics, fanfics, where do I start? I have so many bookmarked, and I need to make a rec post sooner or later. Anyway, if I have to choose just the one, it'll be this one:

The Poster Girl by [livejournal.com profile] stardust_made. It's a Sherlock case fic, and it's awesome. Wonderfully complex and realistic, it's all about deducing and investigating, and the characterizations are perfect. It's the best way to survive the long wait for new episodes, with a brand new case that's so perfectly written you'll find it hard to believe it isn't the real deal.

Now back to drinking my soya milk. It took me a lot to get used to the taste, but it's the only safe way I can introduce calcium in my body, and I really don't want to break a hip because I couldn't drink milk. ^^

Remember how I said in my latest entry I didn't get burned on my first day at the beach? It looks like it took a couple of hours sitting in the sun talking with Tati's mom to achieve that goal. Well, not much burned, but there are a few spots, like my shoulders, that are quite red and itch a lot. Also, the left side of my face is a lot redder than the other side, which prompted me into making a bad Two-Face impression at the mirror flipping an imaginary coin. Mental age: 8.

We're having some wonderful sunny days, so it's no wonder I try and sit in the sun every time I can. Plus Tati's mom didn't come alone. She brought their new cat, she found her wandering in their garden a couple of weeks ago, and she's so small and adorable I can't leave her alone. See what I'm talking about:

Meet Mimi. My god, she's the cutest thing ever, and she's as long as the tv remote, *so* small. When I came back home today and took Sakura in my arms I was amazed at how heavy she is. She's turning 6 this year, but to me she hasn't aged a day, and now it's the first time I noticed how much she's grown. :D

I had the most annoying bus ride ever today. It took us two hours and a half, when it's usually an hour-long trip, and why? Because of two car accidents. In a row. In the same street. For god's sake, that road is straight as an arrow for miles, how can someone possibly have an accident? Where do people learn to drive? Why do they have to go faster than anybody else, is that a race? No one was hurt, but still.

In other news, my eyes sting, like I have been crying. Since that's not the case, I washed them with some cold water and browsed [livejournal.com profile] 1stclass_kink for some angsty fics. I mean, since my eyes are already red and puffy and watery, might as well get on reading those depressing fics I'd been saving for a rainy evening! My logic, it is flawless.

I'm listening *a lot* to the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs album. The funny thing is, whenever a happy song is playing, I think "Oh, that's perfect for Sherlock and John", and when it's a sad song's turn, my mind goes "This is *so* Charles and Erik". My favourite ships have taken control of my brain. It's over.

Aaand now I think I should really search for some eyedrops somewhere.

I was at Tati's for the weekend, so I couldn't write my usual Doctor Who review. I just have to write down my thoughts now, so I can check back in the fall after watching the next episodes.

Mostly, I loved it. I'm still annoyed by the Almost People's ending, as this final episode proved that it was more of a "surprise!" ending than a serious issue. At least Amy looked traumatized enough in this episode, I would have hated them otherwise.

Loved how they finally included not-straight couples. Especially as they just let it happen, instead of pointing it out, the way tv shows usually do. I mean, it wasn't "look, gays! we're soooo cool we have gays in our shows", and instead it was "we have two incredible characters, they are women, they're badass, one of them is even smarter than the Doctor, and they're a couple". I do hope they'll be back. *___*

And even if I had already figured it out by the end, I still loved that last scene. So touching, really beautiful. Alex Kingston is just soooo good. I need icons!

Last but not least, a request! I need Sherlock fics! Last week I neglected my computer because of my aunt, and since I'm spending three days a week at Tati's every week I'm sure I missed lots of good fics. Any rating, any genre. *_____*
