I've been following the 9news livestream about the Denver shooting for an hour now. For those of you who still don't know, a madman shot the crowd inside a movie theater in Denver, where they were showing the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises. 15 dead as of now, 50 casualties, there's maybe bombs hidden in the parking lot by the same guy. Let us not forget that movie is PG13, so the theater was probably full of kids.
What is it going to take for the USA government to do something about their gun problem? Yes, as a very bright mind told me on facebook a few minutes ago, people get killed here in Italy too. But it's way harder here. You can't just walk inside a store and buy a gun, as if it was groceries. My uncle is a hunter, and he has to do all sorts of exams and tests every year, it is incredibly hard for anyone to own a gun here, and rightfully so. He told me the cops can drop by his house anytime just to check if the closet where he keeps his rifles is locked. If it isn't, he loses his permit and gets arrested. Which is how it should be everywhere!
And yet I'm 90% sure most of the newspapers will prefer to talk about a cursed movie franchise, and bullshit like that, instead of talking about the real issue here. I feel so, so sorry about all the victims, their families, the survivors who had to go through such a horrible experience. But I fear we won't learn anything from this tragedy.
