And here's your entry to discuss the new Supernatural episode!
Which was absolutely awesome. And it had everything I wanted and more. And it broke my heart so many times and I still loved it. And it also had new and old wonderful female characters that were the icing on a mindblowing cake of everything that I wanted.
Spoilers in the comments, obviously. ;)

Date: 2014-10-08 12:30 pm (UTC)I loved what they did with Sam. He's done so much character development, they couldn't just revert to Mystery Spot. He's accepted the death of his brother, he's working to put him to rest. Sam's misunderstanding of the situation was one of the things I loved most, and that also hurt the most. It felt like he knew the truth, on a very deep subconscious way, but couldn't even bring himself to think of it as a possibility.
And they did a great job with Castiel too. He's grieving for Dean, for his life, but he won't compromise his morals, what Dean taught him. He'd rather die than live off another angel's life.
I loved how they could have gone the easy way, and make all three of them just depressed and cynical and leave it there, but instead they dug deeper, and found them all complex, believable reasons for their choices. Castiel has lost Dean, so obviously his will to live is crumbled, but most of all it's about a moral choice, and I loved that. And Sam is grieving, but he's also accepted that his brother's dead, and he's doing what he can about it. No deals, no self-destructing actions born out of pure desperation.
Even Dean acting on his worst impulses didn't feel like the usual I've-given-up-on-everything-because-I-don't-deserve-it Dean. He cares for the same things he did before, but in a dark, twisted way. He doesn't care if Sam dies, but he still would destroy anyone who touched his brother, because Sam is his brother. He sleeps around and drinks and destroys, but it's not self-destructive, it's a party before real work starts. He wants the fun to never end, because he doesn't know what's going to happen next.
I loved A LOT that last scene with the waitress. I loved how she put him in his place for calling her a slut. It was really, really well-written. It wasn't a random badass moment, it felt real. She felt like she deserved that kind of treatment from anyone, and she realized that line of thought was messed up. I cheered a lot there.
I also love Hannah's storyline. I have a weak spot for angels learning about what it is to be human, and I enjoyed her conversations with Castiel a lot. I feel like there's bound to be changes in Heaven, in the Angels' way of thinking. They gotta stop thinking like sheep, and they have to learn from Humans. Art, music, love.
I don't know what to think about that new hunter. We still know nothing, no backstory, anything. So yep, I literally have zero thoughts there. Except that he needs to die, because he hurt my precious Sam.
And I'm super curious about Sam's accident. I want to know more!
Also, Dean's demon hair is super hot and I spent the whole episode itching for running my fingers through it. It just looked so glorious!

You said: "I loved what they did with Sam. He's done so much character development, they couldn't just revert to Mystery Spot. He's accepted the death of his brother, he's working to put him to rest. I was just asking for frozen_delight's opinion on this, because she seems to have seen the episode inside out and I've been waiting to have time to re-watch it, because it wasn't how I interpreted what was going on with Sam on first viewing. But from my (admittedly limited) scroll through some blogs, it seems there's some confusion about what's what at the moment. Anyway I got the impression that Sam knew Dean was out there, alive and kicking, and was trying to find him—his line to Cas about how it'd be good to get him back and kick his butt seems to suggest that. And that only when he saw the video he thought Dean was dead and possessed by a demon. But I thought between that discovery and him finding out that Dean was alive after all, there was very little time to conclude that he had accepted Dean's death and was working to put him to rest. Also, his characterisation at the end of season nine seemed to take a sharp turn when he confessed to Dean that he had lied about being ready to let him go and then there was the scene of him trying to summon Crowley. He didn't look like he had accepted Dean's death and Crowley's words also suggested Sam was trying to bring Dean back. Although Crowley lies! Although in this case, seeing that he was talking more for dramatic effect than with an actual purpose, he had no reason to lie.
Like I said, confused.
So yes, I've been waiting to have time to re-watch the episode, because I'm confused about other things too. For instance, is Crowley lying to Dean when he told him he will become a demon if the Mark isn't 'fed'? I don't think he is, but we see Dean's eyes clearly black so I don't know whether you can become a demon in stages...Also, do you know whether Crowley's 'healed' from his addiction to human blood? I know it's a bit random, but I just thought about it.
Oh! I am also confused about the final scene. If Dean doesn't care about Sam being dead, why does he ask the new guy if Sam is dead and then insists to make sure Sam's alive. Is he bluffing maybe? Why is he threatening to kill New Guy if he doesn't care about Sam? Is it because New Guy is showing disrespect by trying to call the shots? That's what I thought.
Is New Guy a hunter, do you think?
I should have started this with 'Dear Bobby, I have a few questions..."
I liked Hannah and I feel that Castiel will turn into the teacher himself this time. It's so strange and unsettling to see him cough and be poorly. Crowley didn't look like the picture of youth and health, either, and let's not even talk about Sammy. Seems like letting go of your morals and growing your hair is just the ticket.;)

Date: 2014-10-11 09:46 am (UTC)Although I think the problem lies with this mysterious incident. From what we can gather, Sam and Castiel were actually working together trying to find Dean, but something happened, something involving a dog according to Crowley (maybe a werewolf or a hell hound?) and a demon, and Sam's shoulder got busted.
And then something happened six weeks ago with Dean, and I think that's probably what brought the New Hunter in. Maybe Dean killed NH's brother? Something like that? And in that occasion he almost turned full demon, but Crowley managed to help him.
Speaking of which, I wonder what that means. Dean is obviously a Knight, and he can do the black eyes thing, but maybe he can't do the smoke thing yet? Nor possess anyone?
Boy, we need to see so many flashbacks! *_________*
