The heatwave is coming, and I'm ready. It isn't here yet, we're having sunny days but with a lovely wind, but I've already bought juice, lots of fruit, mint syrup, I cleaned up the air conditioner filters, I'm basically ready for the summer apocalypse. My aunt is coming on thursday, and she already told me what to make her for dinner when she gets here, and it's all vegetables and cold meat. I'm ready! *grabs a wooden spoon and stares dramatically into the sunset while waves crash all around her*

In fandom news, the final episode of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell aired the other day, and it was bloody amazing. I loved it so much I had to do a happy dance around the sitting room when it was over. Literally. The blu ray should arrive by tomorrow, I can't wait to watch it all over again! I wonder if there'll be extra content. *____*

On the same day they also aired the second episode of this new season of True Detective, but I haven't watched it yet. You probably remember how much I loved the first season last year, and while I was worried Cary Fukunaga wasn't coming back for this one, I was still really excited. And then, the first episode aired, and I hated it. At first I just found it boring and confusing, but the more I thought about it during the week, the more I realized how much I disliked it. So I've decided to just wait until this season is over, ask my friends if it gets better, or if the ending makes it all worth it, and then decide whether to marathon it all, or just drop it. We'll always have the bayou anyway.

Oh, and just a little heads-up: there's a 1080 copy of Mad Max Fury Road floating around online. If you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out on a fantastic movie, believe me!

And now off to lunch with the new episode of Vicious!

Yesterday I spent the day with Tati. The weather was wonderful, warm spring weather, and we went to the cinema and had ice cream. This is definitely my favourite time of the year. Summer here is usually hot and humid, but spring is absolutely perfect. ^^

In the evening I watched Birdman on my laptop, really late to the party. I did like the first half of it, and the actors were all really good, but I have to say by the end I thought it was very disappointing. There was no growth in the characters, one way or the other, the story went nowhere, and even if on paper filming it all as a tracking shot, or at least making it look like one by cleverly hiding the cuts, works, after a while it was too obvious: the actors were obviously sidestepping the camera, pirouetting like ballerinas, and it was very distracting.

I think what ruined it for me was the ending though: it tried too hard to be artsy, that it forgot to say something, anything at all. What a shame, because it looked like the kind of movie I usually would love. Oh well.

In unrelated news, they released the first trailer for the second season of True Detective, and it's one wonderful minute of Fiona Apple wistfully singing what I hope is the new opening song, and a collection of scenes that tell us nothing but that it looks amazing. June can't come soon enough. *_____*

Today it's one of those days when reality just won't stop hitting me over the head like a brick. Started the morning with news of Robin William's death; without his movies, watched and re-watched constantly during my childhood, I would be a very different person today. I owe him so much of my sense of humour and wonder. I'll miss him a lot.

Then I had to endure a very painful visit at mom's clinic. And as it turns out I also have to organize a dental check-up for her, because the dentist from the hospital would take months to come visit her, so it's up to me to find an available dentist. I'll have to wait two weeks before my dentist comes back from the holidays, and it's going to be such a fun conversation.

Now I'm eating junk food, and I just finished complaining about all the above over the phone with a friend, so at least now I feel better. And this arrived in the mail just after breakfast:

I did tell you I'm currently obsessing over True Detective, I'm just keeping it on tumblr to give you all the impression I'm a sane individual. But yeah, Rust's mug arrived today, and Marty's Pink Floyd shirt should arrive next week. I'm such a huge nerd. :D

I'm feeling a lot better. Still coughing, but the headaches are weaker, the vertigo is gone, and I don't feel as tired as yesterday. I had weird dreams last night, mostly because I've been binge-watching True Detective. I just finished watching the last episode, and holy shit, what a great series. As others have said before, we now live "in a world where movies have been replaced by tv as the media for grown-ups", and it's never been truer. This series is basically an eight-hour-long movie, a masterpiece in the serial killer genre, with superb acting, amazing cinematography, fantastic dialogues, and great directing. The tracking shot in episode four had me squealing in joy, I've already downloaded the unofficial soundtrack, and I just added the boxset to my Amazon wish list.

In other, depressing news, I don't know if any of you are Marion Zimmer Bradley's fans, but just in case, there's been some terrible news about her last month that made me throw all her books away. You can read about it here, just be advised, trigger warning for pedophilia. If it's too hard for you to read, but you'd still want to know about it, just ask me and I'll write you an abridged version of what happened.

And now for something wonderful to lift our spirits, here's a video of a drone flying through a fireworks show. It's probably the most beautiful thing ever posted on youtube:

The original music was Bocelli's Con Te PartirĂ², but they had to change it for copyright reasons. Since the new song sucks, here's a link to the original song. Just turn off the audio on the fireworks video and let Bocelli sing in another window. Trust me on this, the final result will bring tears to your eyes.
