nausicaa83: (<sherlock> reading)
day one • a song
day two • a picture
day three • a book/ebook/fanfic
day four • a website
day five • a youtube clip

Starting with the ebook, there's a great site called Project Gutenberg where you can download hundreds of classic novels, completely free (also legal, which doesn't hurt).

Then, the book. I'm currently reading North & South (by the way, I found the soundtrack of the tv series online, if anyone is interested just tell me and I'll give you a link), Toothiana, Queen of the Fairy Armies (the third Guardians book by William Joyce) and The Hobbit, because I'm physically incapable of reading one book at a time. No wonder sometimes I get the storylines confused. :D Anyway, for this meme I thought it would be nice to post pictures of my first The Hobbit copy. My parents gave it to me when I was six, and my sister and I read it so many times we knew it backwards. It still has notes in my sister's handwriting, and a portrait of Smaug by yours truly in pencil.

Bonus picture, my Tolkien shelf! All the books I own, both in Italian and in English, the artbooks, the soundtracks and the movies. I'm quite proud of this one. ;)

Then, the fanfic! It was so easy to choose, the first place goes to Of Ghosts And Men, by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] stardust_made.

It's a serious crossover between Sherlock and Supernatural, although you don't have to know both to appreciate it. It's wonderful, realistic, and believable, with perfect voices and characterizations. The writing is, in a word, beautiful. Think good wine, jazz music on vynil and a sunny afternoon all rolled into one, that's how beautiful it is. Quite frankly, I would read a ten-page-long shopping list if it were written by her. Except in this case it's a fascinating story that will leave you asking for more at every new chapter.

And let me also add, it's an epic, and as any fan of The Fall will tell you, Epics are great. ;) Here's on AO3 too, just in case.

Finally had my therapy session today! We had to skip two sessions because my therapist had a congress and a couple of emergencies this week, so today I talked twice as fast as normal to make up for lost time. I very much needed it, as yesterday I had a horrible, one-hour-long phonecall with a friend of mine who's suffering from depression. She's seeing a therapist as well, but she just started, and yesterday she called me and sobbed the whole time. I did manage to pick up her spirits by the end, but it was a very, very tiring experience for me as well. I had horrible nightmares all night, and woke up at 4 am screaming.

Today I feel much better. Therapy went great, the weather is lovely, and there was little to no acqua alta, so I didn't ruin my shoes. I did some grocery shopping on the way home, and decided to buy pineapple juice. It is my cousin's favourite, so I only buy it when she's here, and then she's the only one to drink it. I think I hadn't had any in years, and today I sat down with a glass of it and did my best Arthur Shappey impression for the benefit of Sakura before drinking it all in one go. It tastes better than I remembered, although I have to agree with Gerry here, it is quite acidic. XD

I had nothing planned for the afternoon, except ironing a bunch of laundry, but then I thought I could start on North & South, the BBC series. I was expecting it to be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be so BRILLIANT. The story was gripping, the acting incredible (besides Richard Armitage being absolutely glorious, if anyone knows of any other show or movie with the actress who played Margaret do rec please, because I'm utterly in love with her), and I only stopped once to change the dvd and make a cup of tea. At the start of the third episode Sakura decided she was bored and came to sit on my lap, then on my arm, then she sprawled on both of them, and started snoring. By the end of the fourth episode my right arm was all pins and needles. :D Anyway, such a great series, now I'd like to read the book too! Next on my list of "stuff Richard Armitage was in that looks good and therefore I must see": Robin Hood! Can't wait!
