Third and final part! In which we find some rain, walk through a park, have the most amazing experience ever, and say goodbye to the most beautiful city in the world.

Third and final movement. )

And that was the end. A beautiful journey that made me so very, very happy. An amazing city, and I can't wait to visit it again. *_____*

Roman Holiday, second part! Fair warning, first one to mention Dan Brown shall be exiled from this blog for the rest of the year. Only books I ever felt like burning, and I read Twilight. *shudders*

Second movement, same as above. )

Third and final part here.
nausicaa83: (<assassin's creed> jump!)
First entry for my Roman Holiday journal. Four days in the Eternal City with my family, 200 pictures taken, it was a journey I'd dreamed about ever since I was a kid. For viewers just tuning in now, I graduated in Archaeology in 2006 with a thesis on Roman roads and harbours (I'll spare you the details because it was super technical and, according to everyone but me, super boring). This to give you an idea of what this trip meant to me.

I uploaded the pictures to Photobucket, drop me a line if the links don't work. I haven't used it in a while and I'm worried they'll pull the 'exceeded bandwith' card again.

Under the cut for amphitheaters, swiss guards and greek scarves! )

On to the second part!

I'm back! I have a bunch of pictures too, but LJ has been down all day, and now it only works with zenmate active, which is a real pain in the butt. I'll post a better, more comprehensive entry about my trip when LJ stops acting up. In the meanwhile, just know that it was a fantastic trip, and that I had a wonderful time. Now I'm battling the usual Back Home Blues (tm), and I've spent the day doing the laundry (there was a lot of walking and a lot of sweating considering it was just four days), and staring maudlinly out of the window. I'm sure tomorrow I'll feel better.

Short entry written on my cellphone: third day in Rome with my family! We walked for miles in the wonderful sun, slept on the shore in the Tiburtina Island, saw the Pope telling Mass on Good Friday, we walked all the way to the top of Castel Sant'Angelo and there, under the angel unsheathing his sword, I sang 'e lucevan le stelle' from Tosca. It's been a beautiful, magical trip. We'll be back tomorrow evening, I took hundreds of pictures, so be ready for that. ;)

nausicaa83: (<avengers> suitcase of memories)
So, remember how I said I had this cold I couldn't shake off, with a sore throat and all? Today I went to see an otolaryngologist, because after three weeks I was getting worried, and it turns out it's not an infection like I thought, it's just another goddamn kind of panic attack, just in tiny form. It has a scientific name and everything. He prescribed a lot of rest and some sedatives, but as soon as I walked out I called my therapist and she forbade me from taking any meds. Since tomorrow I'm leaving for Rome, four days in the capital with my aunt, uncle, and younger cousin, she said the only cure I need is a holiday, and a lot of therapy when I get back. Good, because I really don't like meds that make me drowsy. Bad, because I'm so pissed off at my damaged brain right now that I really want to break something.

So I came back, made myself a cup of scalding hot herbal tea and aggressively played American Pie on my ukulele until I felt better. As it turns out, one can aggressively play the ukulele. Who knew?

So yep, tomorrow I'm leaving for Rome, and I'll come back on sunday with lots of pictures! It's my first time there, so I'll just visit all the obvious tourist spots, make Gina Lollobrigida impressions to make my aunt laugh, and eat everything in sight. Sounds like a plan. ^^
