Yesterday I finally watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and I loved it! Full of adventure, piratey stuff, a great script, a treasure hunt, a sweet love story. Loved everything about it. Penelope Cruz was really good (no surprise there), there was a lot of Barbossa, and the sequence with the mermaids was a little masterpiece: creepy, dreamlike, and a great action scene that kept me on the edge of my seat. Plus Jack Sparrow felt a lot more like the Jack I fell in love with in the first movie (I'm one of those who didn't like the sequels at all).

Now I feel the need of some Philip/Syrena fics, because they were just too cute, and I need more. *___*

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with pirate stories. I had books, I had tapes of pirate songs, I had vhs tapes with documentaries about Edward Teach and the like. This movie is all about pirates doing piratey things, just like the first one, so I spent the whole time making weird happy sounds to myself. :D

Plus, there's a beautiful romance sub-plot, very delicate, that I'm sure you're going to love. *___*

Just came back. *runs around and makes swashbuckling moves* Loved the film, laughed a fair bit, too!! And I agree with you about Jack being his old self, like he was in the first film. Plus it was good to have more Barbossa! Woooo! *goes on waving an imaginary sword* :D

I loved so much Barbossa in the first movie, and he's finally back! *________*

And I'm growing obsessed with this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci78uxP8PFo). \o/

It was a lovely song--the mermaids were all great, very...mermaid-y.:)

And agreed on Barbossa--he's the one that could give Captain Jack a run for his money; it's a pleasure to see the two actors in scenes together--and separately, of course!:)

I especially loved the scene where they share rhum from Barbossa's leg, acting all BFFs. :D

Also I have a soft spot for Philip and Syrena, they were so sweet, I must be getting old. ^^"

Noo, they were objectively sweet.:) It was a very subtle, lyrical love story, quite well done in such bold, crash-bam-boom setting.
I really enjoyed that movie--and it was an excellent respite from the case!fic. It's great to detach myself so fully from it, then I go back all refreshed. AND in this case, it was for something so worth it!:)

Heeh, that's good to know! I heard from different sources that the movie's only so-so, but I trust your verdict more. ♥

I'm a huge fan of pirate stories, that's why I didn't like the second and third sequels, they were too messy, pointless action sequences that lasted ages, and Will and Elizabeth had the weirdest character development ever. Yet here we have lots of pirates going on a treasure hunt, exactly what I wanted.

And Penelope Cruz is so good, she steals every scene she's in.

Now I gotta tell you that story: I went to see PotC 3 with my mother back when it was released in German cinemas. During the climax, which as you know lasts about a bazillion hours, every single person in the cinema got up, one after another, to go to the toilet. It was hilarious. There was literally no one who got what was happening on the screen, and no one really cared, either, so one person went out, came back 2 mins later, and the next person got up and left, yadda-yadda. (Mom & me too.)

I think I dozed off during that scene in the cinema. It was eternal, and I didn't really care what was happening anyway. Plus Keira had just acted all Pirate Queen, and every pirate worth his name would have thrown her overboard, and yet there they are following her to war or whatever.

Now, Angelica. That's a real female pirate.

Oh God, Keira's character made me so angry. She could've been awesome, but they wasted all that potential for poor writing. I really want to see this Angelica in action now, to make up for this horrible wanna-be pirate that was Elizabeth Swann.

She was such a great character in the first movie, and then they completely re-wrote her just to create pointless angst. Such a waste.
