Just finished watching Doctor Who. Wonderful episode, Moffat is a god, but seriously, WHAT THE FUCK. I have a terrible feeling they won't explain anything about the lake or the girl until the season finale. Maybe not even the first one. It's going to be a long, LONG year.
Let's start with the silly stuff, I loved how they got all their ships right. River and the Doctor are absolutely amazing, and the kiss, guys, the KISS. It was perfect. And Rory being such an adorable jealous guy with low self-esteem. Of course she loves *you*, you idiot! Her puzzled look when he asked her if she loved the Doctor was the best. And when she told the Doctor he's her best friend? So cute!
Now, on to the serious stuff! Let's see if I got this right: the little girl is Amy and Rory's child, but she's somehow infected by the Tardis' heart or something, so she's also a Timelord? I'm not sure I can really stand the idea of her dying of cold and starvation, after being tortured by aliens, while her mom and dad are off hunting mermaids and playing pirates. Yes, she comes back to life right away, but really, this is too much. O_O
The "one small step for a man" scene was one of my favourites, with all the humans blinking. Everything was building up to that scene, and I was so breathless when they finally did it. I also loved that scene with the Doctor and Rory talking about his memories of being the Last Centurion. Nice development of Rory, who's such a favourite character of mine. ^^
My only complaint? Too many scenes with Nixon playing the Deus Ex Machina. I know Moffat wants to explain us every tiny detail, but I thought those scenes were cute, but slowing down the pace a bit.
So now, they still have to explain us all that thing back at the lake, why the doctor let the person in the space suit kill him, who's the little girl, and what's with Amy's pregnancy going on and off.
Judging from how it started this might be the best Doctor Who season ever, no kidding.

Date: 2011-04-30 09:39 pm (UTC)I also think we're not gonna know anything until the end of this series. I like that though, keeps me excited about whats coming next.
Why is the girl regenerating? Why the picture of Amy in her room? What were the silence doing with her in the spacsuit, with an exo-skelton? Why did they take Amy? Is there even more to the Lodger storyline? Why is Amys pregnancy changing?
I loved the idea of subliminal messages in "iconic" TV clips like the moon landings.
My favourite part was the last scence with Nixon and the doctor and delaware. "Well, tricky Dicky, they're never gonna forget you" and the funniest line. " yes, he is." " i think the moon is far enough for now, Mr Delaware"

Yeah, I agree with you on Amy's pregnancy. The Tardis seems to be royally screwing with it.

Date: 2011-05-01 08:17 am (UTC)My main problem with Moffat last season was that he just couldn't keep these characters constant in their actions. Mostly Amy, one episode she was trying to jump the doctor's bones, and the next she was acting like he was just a friend. It drove me mad.
With the Pandorica storyline, though, all was forgiven, and with these two episodes he completely redeemed himself. River is smart and clever, but that doesn't make her annoying like before. Amy loves Rory and the Doctor, but in different ways and she's coherent with that. So now I can appreciate all the wonderful sci-fi stories without wanting to shoot half the cast. \o/
