Drumroll, please! It's my first entry of this year's Reading Bingo!



For the "A Book With A Female Heroine" square I chose Alexander McCall Smith's Tears of the Giraffe, his second book in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. As with the first one, we follow the story of Precious Ramotswe, the owner of Botswana's only detective agency. It's a very relaxing and charming book, that made me fall in love with Botswana all over again, and with the wonderful characters of this book. Mma Ramotswe takes various cases, all while organizing her wedding, and her boyfriend adopts two orphans. It's a cozy, beautiful story, the cases are intriguing and the characters fascinating. With every new chapter I had to run to my cousin to tell her what was happening and how worried I was that the main characters would fall out of love over his abrupt decision to adopt the kids, and we would worry together and share theories about the murder mystery. It was a great experience, I can't wait to read the next one. *______*

In other news, I started playing the Lego: The Hobbit videogame. I had only played another Lego videogame before, and not even to the end. I almost threw my controller out of the window when I couldn't figure out how to open the very first door, but after that it's been smooth sailing. The puzzles are intriguing but not so difficult to be annoying, and it is hilarious. My favourite thing to do is to link arms with whoever I'm standing next to and just skip around. Even while the dragon was attacking Erebor and I had to rescue the king. :D The dialogue comes from the movies, and it's so wonderful to just sit there and listen to all my favourite actors delivering lines I know by heart. I still have to get used to the fact that to finish every level I have to build stuff, though. As Bilbo, I had to destroy all my furniture to build a table large enough for 13 dwarves, and it took me a while to realize that was the only course of action. My poor furniture!

In real life news, same ol' same ol'. I had a dentist appointment scheduled for the past monday morning, and I slept very little the night before (I'm worried I'll have to go through a new string of painful surgeries like last summer), but then over a very sleepy breakfast I got a call that the dentist was sick, and they moved the appointment to the 23rd. I feel like I wasted a perfectly good worrying!

You've done a book already! And it's always nice to start with a book that you enjoy. I think you liked most of the books you read for the card last year. I read most of your reviews when you wrote them, and they seemed more positive than negative overall.

I liked my first female heroine one too, it was genuinely creepy and intense!

I find the lego games super fun but I'm never compelled to finish them straightaway. I spend half the game running around collecting studs and then get bored and start something else, only to come back later and slog my way to the end.

Now that I think about it, yep, I did like most of the books I read last year. Even the ones I didn't like, they were more boring than anything. To be fair, it's very rare for me to actually hate a book. I think the last one I really hated was The Time Traveller's Wife, and that was... four years ago, I think.

Last year I threw away all my Marion Zimmer Bradley books, but that was because it turned out she was a rapist and a pedophile. Would have burned them if I could.

This is my second Lego game, but I only started the other one. I'm planning on finishing this one, but oh boy, it is huge and dispersive. There's so many hobbits asking me to fetch them things, and the map is way bigger than what the story requires, and I love wasting time by linking arms with another character and just skip around. I did the battle with Azog the Defiler all while having Dwalin and Thorin skipping around, arm in arm, and Dori was the one who cut Azog's hand off. There was A LOT of laughing on my part. This game is adorable! :D

I didn't do too badly either, I had a few that were disappointing but I think only two that I really didn't like. I'm hoping this year is just as much fun!

Yeah, I'd never tried any of her books, but that definitely made sure that I never would. That whole thing was just awful on top of awful.

It sounds like so much fun, and if only for all the adventures I'm definitely going to pick up later when it's on sale :)

I'm getting a bit too trigger-happy with Bilbo's stick, I'm smashing everything on my path. When I left Hobbiton it was basically Erebor after the dragon came. :D

And there's all these funny moments like the orcs calling Azog on the phone, or Bilbo opening the door to Kili and Fili who are busy checking themselves in a mirror! XD

The other day I did all the part in Goblin Town, and my best friend was in stitches because I kept falling over the ledge every single time I tried to jump. I lost so much money, what the hell. And then I did the Riddles in the Dark, where Bilbo is helped by a goblin that had hit its head and mistook him for a Goblin officer.

This game is amazing. :D
