nausicaa83: (<cowboy bebop> lazy)

It's been a while since I did a movie review, so here's two of them. Yes, I'm bored. :D

First, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. This movie came out a few weeks back, and it's noticeable for having the best trailer of 2013. Two minutes that are sadly way better than the entire movie. The problem with this movie is that it takes a fantastic concept, something that could keep up to masterpieces like The Fall, and falls flat because of a boring, predictable plot. It could have been larger than life and at the same time intimate and pure, and instead it's the laziest piece of homework ever. Such a pity, because the cinematography is great, and the visual effects are great, and the music is beautiful, and nothing works because there isn't a solid enough plot to hold it all together.

The second one is a mirror to the first one. With Her, Spike Jonze's new movie, they could have gone the easy route, the one almost everyone expected: a new spin to the same ol' Manic Pixie Dream Girl route, and do a cute movie with no soul. Instead they turned it completely head over heels, and made a stunning, heart-breaking movie about Artifical Intelligence that deserves its place in the sci-fi pantheon. It is, in fact, a movie about her, a OS that is a new form of life, a being that isn't human, a disemboided voice that learns and mutates in percentages of seconds, observing and learning and evolving in something new, and beautiful, and incomprehensible. And it's also a love story that squeezed the breath out of my lungs more than once. I can't recommend it enough.

Next on my list, American Hustle and Gravity. I want to be ready for the Oscars. ;)

Deludente davvero. Una trama povera povera che non arriva da nessuna parte. Che occasione mancata!
