Just a short entry to let you know I'm up-to-date with The Hour. That's 8 hours of marvellous television, best sleepless night ever. Now I'm in that sort of haze where my body needs more episodes, and I'm just sitting here with a dumb expression on my face counting down the hours until the next one. It's a lot of hours. *cries in her pillow*

But seriously, how brilliant is that show? And all the actors are SO GOOD, and Ben Whishaw is extraordinary, is it something in the water up there in Britain, is that why they have so many amazing actors? Or perhaps was it a deal with the devil? One does wonder.

This second season looks just as amazing, and rationally I admire them for choosing to change the tone of the show, and give it brand new themes and all. A small part of me, though, misses the spy story, and the MI6, and the Soviet agents, and squeeing out loud everytime they mentioned the James Bond novels. ^^

In other news, my aunt is coming next wednesday! We've decided we'll call my old-and-new oncologist together, so stay tuned for news on that front too.

I know you said things, but at present pretty much anything that is NOT about Supernatural is lost on me. So you have a match in obsessing in me.:)

Seriously, though, I'm glad you're enjoying that show so much! I'll keep it in mind. You're also very right about British actors. It's incredible how many talented actors there are, of all generations. They keep coming and coming, and their shows are in a league of their own.

I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning, going into the fifth season after witnessing the horror of the finale. And sparing you a thought—I don't know HOW you got through the pause between seasons! You brave little soldier.:)

So I watched all the episodes up to "The End", including. (By the way, I know Lucifer!Jared was go-o-o-od, but Jensen stole my heart with his performance as both Dean and future!Dean.) I teared up a few times, both at the season four finale and throughout the harrowing first few episodes of five, but "The End" had me with tears rolling down my cheeks like a child. Sam and Dean are breaking my heart. I could hardly bear watching their relationship fall apart. I mean that scene when Sammy called Dean to ask for his help. You know the whole exchange: Dean: Yeah, we're better off apart. We got a better chance of dodging Lucifer and Michael and this whole damn thing, if we just go our own ways./ Sam: Dean, don't do this./ Dean: Bye, Sam. I thought I'd choke.;_; I want them to be happy so much.*bawls*

So yeah, I dreamed about the Winchester brothers ALL NIGHT. I'm serious: the whole technicolour thing, with angst and hugging and my trying to get them back together happy. (And there was also a random snippet of some plant which a strange dude was hurting at what seemed like my birthday party. He wasn't even invited! I threw him out. WTF brain?)

I have two ideas for fics now, and I have a sherlockmas story to write, and RL stuff to do, but the fics are TAKING OVER. I hope you're happy!! (Someone has to take the blame.:))

Well, it IS my fault, so yes, you can blame me. :D

If I had to choose one favourite episode, I'd go with The End, it's just so unbelievably perfect. Jensen is incredible, the way he acts you can always tell when it's Dean and when it's future!Dean, the Croatoan virus, Chuck hoarding on toilet paper, and Lucifer!Sam, wow. The way Jared imitates Mark Pellegrino, he just SELLS it. The moment you see him you just KNOW it's Lucifer, that we've completely lost. And the dialogue in the garden, these writers are so good. By the way, I cry every single time, and the first time I remember I sobbed my eyes out as soon as Dean started to cry. These kids are killing me!!!

This is definitely the darkest season, it's just so hopeless and desperate, so beware, you'll cry an awful lot later on. It also has some of the best episodes, so at least there's that. And the music!!! Spirit In The Sky at the beginning of Good God Y'All, Simple Man in Free To Be You And Me, those scenes always leave me breathless with how beautiful they are.

Now you have a few fillers ahead of you (with Changing Channels which is one of the best episodes, be ready), and the plot will be back with a vengeance in Abandon All Hope. By the way, that was the midseason finale, just so you know. ;)

Everything you say about 'The End' is true. I was also particularly struck by the symmetry in what we see with both characters. It's easier to be distracted by the whole Sam giving himself over to the Devil thing, but Dean has really good emotional intelligence about some things. (I'm sure he'd vomit if he hears that about himself.*grin*) It tells him that what he has become, in proportion, is just as disturbing as Lucifer!Sam. And he knows why that is, too—that he hasn't just let Sam down by telling him they should be apart, but has also let himself down. It's already a redemption of Sammy in a way, because it brings home to Dean that all the while he's been busy not trusting Sam and thinking Sam should be watched, he has completely overlooked that he needs to be watched himself, and how much he needs Sam to keep him human.

Sorry, I just have thoughts about this episode and the whole brothers dynamic in it like OMG!!

I had to laugh at your telling me the season was the darkest and then saying there was an episode called 'Abandon All Hope'.:D

But honestly? I'm a little worried about how much I can take. I need the boys to find their ways back to each other, because the darkness will become overwhelming otherwise. I mean it's pretty grim, what with the Apocalypse and the angels being the way they are.

As a side note, I've found a lot of humour in there too. Loving how fascinated Cas is with Dean. "Personal space?":) I also LOVE Chuck and the shameless fangirling at the start, with the Wincest and with the "Becky, can you quit touching me?"/"No." Dean's humour has been extra special too. "Dean: Where've you been?"/"Cas: Jerusalem."/"Dean: Oh, how was it?"

God, tha fight between Sam and Dean was so excruciating back in the day, because it took us five bloody weeks to get to The End, and all the way it felt like Dean would never forgive him and the pain was immense!!!

Cas and Dean are SO adorable, and they have the funniest scenes together. I love how, at his core, Castiel is just another monster, and yet Dean treats him like a baby brother he has to look after because otherwise he'd hurt himself or trip down the stairs. (I wonder what would John think of their relationship...)

One of my favourite scenes is when Dean takes Castiel to a brothel, and poor Cas is absolutely terrified, way more than when he had to fight an archaengel. XD And when they have to run away through the back door, and Cas is smiling just because Dean is laughing, even if he clearly has no idea why the situation is funny. :D

It's such a powerful theme, the idea that Castiel, an angel, rebelled against Heaven, everything he ever knew, because Dean taught him about free will, about doing the right thing even when everyone else says it's hopeless. ♥

Yes, I loved that moment SO MUCH. And like you I adored the expression on Cas's face, just gently reflecting Dean's mirth. The entire sequence was the one happy thing in an otherwise depressing episode. I honestly don't know how I'd have made it through those five weeks.;_;

I just watched "The Real Ghostbusters".:D You can guess that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I got such an extra kick out of it, because I'm familiar with that world. Heee!♥

I also had to screencap this and caption it.

Photobucket

Sammy and Dean have just heard that Supernatural has homoerotic subtext.

My favourite thing is that they've been mistaken for a gay couple since day one, and yet Dean still makes that face. XD Poor, naive baby. :D

(How cute are Chuck and Becky together? I love them! ♥ )

I know, bless his cotton socks.♥ (I love saying things like that about him; I always imagine Dean's mortified face.)

Had to actually leave the house for a very brisk 30-minute walk after 'Abandon All Hope'. ;_;

At least there was some humour to be had in the following two. I particularly loved the scene where they checked-in in in the psychiatric clinic. They were both excellent! Jared is so good at comedy. I just watched him do it in 'Swap Meat' too—every time he is given a chance to do something different, he grabs it and runs with it. Lucifer, that little sequence with "You're too precious for this world.", even when he had to play Sam pretending he was crushed that Becky didn't love him anymore. Love him!:)

We had almost two months to wait after Abandon All Hope, that was one funny Christmas holiday. I don't think I had ever cried that hard at a tv show, I was an asbolute wreck. It turns out what Ellen says to Dean, "kick it in the ass and don't miss", was something she improvised on the spot because it was something Kim Manners loved to say, so everyone on the set was crying too. I think that was one the darkest moments for the fandom.

And the fact that the Colt is useless against Lucifer! I wasn't expecting that at all, I thought Dean was going to miss, being tackled by a demon or whatever! That also gives a completely different light on that Lucifer!Sam scene in The End. At first we thought future!Dean was dying there because he hadn't found it in himself to shoot his little brother, but after that I'm convinced he shot him in the head, and Lucifer just healed. It gives a new sense of desperation to the poor guy, dying knowing that his past self has no weapons against Satan. Whoa, the more I think about it, the more I wonder how I managed to survive a whole nine months of that depressing season. It is splendid, but SO INTENSE.

The next episode, The Song Remains The Same, is amazing. It quotes one of my favourite movie sagas, so there's that too. ;)

Just watched 'The Song Remains The Same'. One more tonight and I'm off to an early bed! I agree with you, this season is very depressing. (And last wasn't pink flowers either.) I mean the first few episodes alone were just like lead in my stomach. Every once in a while I think of you watching them over weeks and weeks back in the day, and now that you said about the nine months...I mean 'brave little soldier' doesn't even cut it! I wonder what's worse: drowning in the intensity of it over a few days like I'm doing or stretching the agony over months. My conclusion is that...it's a BLOODY GOOD SHOW!

IT IS. IT'S SO BLOODY GOOD INDEED. I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH.

Thankfully, with the new showrunner, the sixth and seventh season are lighter in tone. They are still dark and gruesome, but in a noir movie sort of way, way less angsty. Even if the main storyline (and villains) are definitely boring, especially after The Apocalypse, it was a welcome change for me.

Well, let me tell you I am glad to hear that, especially after watching Dean in that last scene of 'My Bloody Valentine'.*sobs quietly*

Oh god, that was terrible. ;_;

The Four Horsemen are so perfect, exactly like I would imagine them. I love how they keep quoting and homaging Neil Gaiman's American Gods (especially later in Hammer of the Gods), it works so well in the Supernatural world. ^^

I actually managed only two episodes today: one in the morning and one in the evening. That's all I could take—I honestly cannot bear more of it for today. Let me just say I saw 'Dark Side of the Moon' and '99 Problems'. I don't think I need to elaborate.

Thanks for providing me with happy place!Jensen.♥

I KNOW. Dark Side of The Moon is a masterpiece, but oh god, it's a kick in the stomach. And the amulet! And poor Cas! Wwwwhhhyyyy!

Oh, I totally agree, masterpiece sums it up pretty well. In fact, it's one of the best episode in the entire series for me. But GOD! (Sorry, pun unintended!)

And heee about that video!:)

I started crying as soon as I realized Dean's idea of Heaven is exactly like mine, and then they used THE SONG, and then Sam was so cruel without even realizing it, and then Joshua and God and I want to hug Cas so much! ;_;

I choked up SO BAD when I saw Dean's face, following wee!Sammy with his eyes, fireworks raining over them.♥ But it made the heartbreak as the episode unrolled a hundred times worse.

And Cas, oh goodness! I love Cas. I don't have enough arms for the hugs I keep wanting to give all of them, it's like I don't know to whom to run first!!

Date: 2012-11-26 09:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nausicaa83.livejournal.com
The main problem there is that Cas has been substituting his Father with Dean, believing every word he says, following him and protecting him, and basically hanging on his every word, and now in 99 Problems Dean betrayed that trust. So heartbreaking! ;_; And the fallout is obviously going to be horrible...

Date: 2012-11-26 10:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stardust-made.livejournal.com
Yes, I was thinking about that, too, the intensity of Cas's focus on Dean.

I also thought about the well done asymmetry this time: How hard Dean strives to always have Sam's trust, faith, support, you name it; he is so disappointed to discover that his brother's life doesn't zoom in on family and on him, that he isn't the center of Sam's world in a manner of speaking. While at the same time he is the center of Cas's—the fallout, I imagine, should showcase well that having someone hanging onto your every word is a double-edged sword.
