nausicaa83: (<berserk> my beating heart)

It's Harry Potter's birthday, and he's turning 29. Now, besides the sudden and horrific feeling of being really really older than I can take (know what I mean? They're working on a special edition of the Fellowship of the Ring dvd to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the movie. Ah-ha, now you know how I feel), I've found myself thinking about what the Harry Potter books meant to me.

A friend of mine talked me into reading the books in february 2004. Well, she had actually insisted an whole year, and had me watching the first two movies, which I hated, so in the end I gave up, but told her I would have started from the third one, since I already knew what had happened in the first two books thanks to the movies. Yes, it was The Prisoner of Azkaban, and it blew me away. A month later, we started an internet forum about it, which is still up and running, and when the third movie arrived I started working actively on making Harry Potter vids. They helped me develop a personal editing style more than anything else, and some of them are still on youtube.

I also talked my mom into reading them, and thus she became a rabid fan just like myself. We had hours and hours of long, complicate theories about Voldemort, and Snape, and Sirius. It was so much fun!

The sad thing about it is that I can feel that it's a close chapter of my life. I mean, I still love the books, but I forgot almost all the details, even entire chapters, not to mention the Quidditch. Hedwig's theme doesn't move me as much as it used to, and maybe I've just grown out of this fandom. But it's still my very first fandom, and it holds a special place in my heart.
