I've been following a liveblog of the Sherlock Masterclass at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival for the past hour, as they said Moffat and Gatiss were going to reveal the three Words of the next season of Sherlock. Just like the second season was Woman Hound Fall. I'll put them under a cut, because I guess they could be considered spoilers.
Rat. Wedding. Bow.
So... what in the name of what? The first one is supposed to be The Empty House, and I'm praying to the gods of television that the second one isn't referring to Watson's wedding, for one huge reason. Because, even if The Sign Of Four is amazing and I adore it, and I love Mary Morstan an awful lot, marrying off John, having him move away, and then killing his wife or divorce him just so he can go back to Sherlock and their happy life of crime-solving is so wrong and cruel, I could never stand it. Doyle himself had to kill off or ignore the wife multiple times because the readers were only interested in the crime-fighting duo. And wasting an entire third of a series over a plot point that by its very nature is going to implode and return everyone to the previous status quo, it makes me cringe.
So I'm hoping and praying they actually mean Violet Smith, in The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist. The wedding is the central part of the mystery, everyone's happy and there's jam for tea.
With Bow I guess they're referring to His Last Bow, but that's a very unusual one. Plus, you know, the LAST one. With the retirement and the bees, and it certainly doesn't look like anyone at BBC means to put this Sherlock in retirement anytime soon. So, another puzzling one.
And for the love of all that is holy, what's up with the Rat and Sebastian Moran??? Shouldn't it be Tiger?
Also, S3 will shoot in January and will probably air in the autumn of 2013, possibly August, Sue Vertue confirms. So, it's only one year away! Let's start the countdown! \o/
