Today they finally announced the next companion in Doctor Who. I do not know her, so this is not a comment on her specifically. I'm sure she's a great actress.
What I want to complain about is, that it's another pretty white woman. And I was really hoping we'd get a little more variety, since that's the whole point of the show. Everyone can be a companion, regardless of gender, race, planet, whatever. But as of late it feels like you can only be a companion as long as you're female, white, and fall in love with the Doctor. I do hope they won't go for that again.
And I'm crossing my fingers they won't go for the sassy woman who's so feminist because she's bossy, pushes everyone around, and treats every man like an idiot. Because I'm getting quite tired of that stereotype. You can have strong female characters just by letting them be real, multifaceted characters, like male characters usually are. There's no need to shout or beat up a man to prove you're a strong character. I should just sent them a copy of the Percy Jackson books and hope they'll learn something.
End of rant. ^^
