nausicaa83: (<x-men> stop the flow of time)

Tomorrow, if the weather stays as sunny as today, is going to be my first day at the beach this year! I'll have to wear socks because of that stupid mycosis, but I'll wear blue ones, just like my bikini, so at least it'll look fashionable. :D

Yesterday I watched Sucker Punch, at last. I was very excited about this one, until I started reading not-so-excited reviews, so I tried not to have ridicolously high expectations. In the end, it turns out those reviews were right. The beginning of the movie was a blast, the Sweet Dreams sequence alone is a masterpiece, and all the first part was great, then we got to the dream sequences. And there it started to drag, until by the third sequence it got just plain boring. It was a great idea, but the choreographer for the fight scenes sucked (no other way to say it) and all turned yellow as soon as Babydoll started "dancing", and on the long run it was quite annoying. Maybe they should have gone for completely different colour palettes for every dream, sort of like in Hero (red dream, green dream and so on). And they definitely should have cut some of the fights to give us more time with the other girls, in the first level of the dream.

The actress who played Babydoll was really good. She had three lines tops, and she got the whole character right just using her face and body language. Really impressive. I loved Sweet Pea and Rocket too, while all the other girls felt like extras from Moulin Rouge.

The ending was a bit unexpected, but I liked it. It didn't make me want to re-watch the movie, though. So, after Watchmen, which is a 10 out of 10, this movie just gets a 6 from me. Pity.

I also finished the Book of Lost Things. Wow, I loved it. The one thing that annoyed me a lot was that my edition of the book had 100 extra pages at the end, with interviews to the author, analysis of the original fairytales and so on, and I didn't know it, so when I got to the final chapter I thought I still had a good fourth of the book left to read, and when I realized I was wrong I was so disappointed.

Other than that, it was great. I highly suggest it to everyone, it's a very intense, heartbreaking take on popular fairytales. The ending is quite perfect, it leaves a few questions open that are still rolling around in my brain, and that's a good sign. Every ending needs to be a bit open. ^^

What else? I finally found a torrent for Opera Italia, a bbc show about italian opera, as if it wasn't already quite obvious from the title. ^^" I watched the first episode on channel 3 a couple of weeks ago, and loved it to pieces. I'm a huge fan of Opera (italian or not), so it's definitely my kind of show. ^^

Also, I got a new haircut! It's very short on the neck, with long bangs on the two sides of my face. I'm planning on dying it, sooner or later this summer, but I still haven't decided on the colour. At least now it doesn't get in my eyes all the time. :D
