New entry for the Reading Bingo!
This one was a bit tricky, as not many books fall under this category. For the "A Book With A Number in The Title" square I went for inspiration back to the website that started the whole Reading Bingo, here. I liked the title of Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, and so I downloaded the first one of the series to my kindle. I was completely blown away, it's an amazing book.
It's set in the early nineties in Botswana, and it tells the story of Mma Ramotswe, a local lady who decides to sell the cattle her father left her to open a new business in her town, a Ladies' Detective Agency. She takes different cases, helps her friends, reminisces on her life so far, and her love for Africa shines through everything she does. It's a wonderful story, a poem of love for the country of Botswana, and it has one of the best fictional female characters in history. Mma Ramotswe is a full, complex character, who breathes through every page, and she feels so real I kept having the impression I was sitting next to her, drinking tea, and listening to her stories while watching the sunset on her verandah.
I can't recommend this enough, it's a wonderful book and a fantastic experience. I can't wait to read the whole series! \o/
And in real life news, my aunt arrived yesterday! She made me all kinds of tasty food, we went shopping, and talked so much. She bought a jacket similar to the one I bought the other day, because she fell in love with it as soon as she saw it.
Tomorrow we were supposed to go downtown to get some papers for mom, but with the stupid celebrity wedding going on in Venice the whole block around city hall is closed to everyone, and so we'll have to postpone it to Tuesday. The whole thing got me absolutely livid. Thankfully I had Mma Ramotswe's last chapter waiting for me to fight back the impotent rage. I should be used to foreign billionaires acting like my town is their own private amusement park, but it never gets easier.
Anyway, stupid selfish celebrities aside, I'm having a wonderful time. ^^
