nausicaa83: (<ghibli> wind rises kiss)
I really needed to recharge my batteries, so I spent the weekend at Tati's. We watched cartoons, had tea we bought on the Fortnum & Mason website, ate lemon marmalade biscuits, and walked around the house in pink robes (Tati) and blue shawls (me) like little old ladies. I love being a grown-up. :D

When I came back home I sat down and watched a pirated copy of Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises. I wanted to wait and watch it in the theater, but here in Italy they won't release it until September, and I was afraid of spoilers. I'm glad I got to watch it in Japanese first, because it's definitely the most japanese movie the Sensei has ever made.

No spoilers here, obviously, so it's not really a review, more a need to put into words this beautiful feeling I'm left with, of gratefulness and love for all these beautiful movies that meant so much for me during the last fifteen years, and for this particular movie that encompasses everything about Miyazaki as a director, and gives perfect closure to his work. It feels like the most personal and adult of his movies, and it's so full of a bright desire of life, it's poetry and it's a love letter to flight and life and everything about it left me in awe. And tears.

I already ordered the artbook and soundtrack, and now I'll patiently wait for the chance to see it in theaters just before my birthday. I'll probably spend the summer marathoning his movies in order. It's been such a wonderful journey! ♥
