nausicaa83I got a new tv show to recommend today, and it's so brilliant it deserves its own entry. It's Moone Boy!
It's an Irish sit-com created, co-written by and starring Chris O'Dowd (from The IT Crowd). It's set in 1989, in Ireland, and tells the story of Martin Moone, a 12-year-old boy with an imaginary friend played by O'Dowd. There's mean big sisters, bullies, terrible weather, altar boys mafia, banjos, the Berlin wall. It's delightful, charming, adorable. It put this big goofy grin on my face as soon as the pilot started, and it just kept getting better. The soundtrack is fantastic, with all our favourites from the 80s, plus a lovely dance sequence to the MacGyver theme song. And it's the first time since Ashes To Ashes that I've seen anyone achieve such a perfect 80s look. All the details are there, the make-up, the clothes, even the tv remote. For a kid of the 80s as yours truly, it's a wonderful dive into my childhood.
Believe me, it's an unmissable little gem. And there's a second season coming too! *____*
