Apr. 29th, 2006 05:02 pmYesterday I couldn't sleep well (I just wasn't tired), so I saw a bunch of movies I had downloaded even before Easter and that were waiting on my hard drive. I watched:
- Paycheck: It was a simple action-packed movie, but they simply couldn't handle the whole seeing-the-future problem, and made a mess out of the ending. I'm a *huge* fan of Philip K. Dick, and I'm used to see them screwing his stories when adapting them to movies, but still this could have been better. And what's all the fuss about Ben Affleck? He's not that good of a actor! Luckly there was Uma Thurman, she's always awesome, even if her character is as flat as everyone else. John Woo should just stick to action.
- Wasabi: This was even funnier than I thought, fresh and clean, and we got to see lots of Tokyo. Plus, it has Jean Reno. What else can I ask for? XD
- The Fisher King: I used to love this movie as a kid, it was one of my favourites, and seeing it again as an adult was an incredible experience (and it was 1 am too). It was funny because it didn't look like a movie I would let a kid watch, maybe because now I notice other things when seeing it. Still beautiful as always, though.
- Ice Age 2: I have mixed feelings about this one. It was funnier than I hoped, really good jokes, but it didn't have a story, or at least a solid story like the first one. The characters aren't well developed, it just looks like some sort of a "bridge" to a possible third movie. But I love the first one to death, and it was so good to see all my beloved characters back again! ^^ I couldn't stand Ellie, though, she was really annoying... oh, well. And she didn't even sing "When You're Good To Mama"! *ok, bad joke*
- Total Recall: Just like I read about it, a great sci-fi film, more or less it managed to stay true to the story's spirit, and it had interesting twists. The visual effects looked really good even now (some were even too real, as the eyes popping out of the skull...ugh), and I liked the white fading at the end. And with this one I have watched every movie ever made from a Philip K. Dick's story! Go me! Now back to read Ubik again, and wonder if they'll ever have the guts to make a movie out of *that* book... nah, impossible. I'm alive, you're dead.
