That's an awful shame about Venice. I've never been there but I always had a very romantic image of it in my mind. I suppose that's the problem - EVERYONE does!
It reminds me of an article I read a while back about historic sites of the world that are in danger like Machu Picchu and Anchor Wat. They are being literally eroded into dust by the thousands (probaly millions) of feet that pass over them every year! Not to mention the Galapagos Islands. I don't think that anyone but a small number of scientists should be allowed go there.
