Today was an historical day for me. The first time in seven years I went downtown and ended up in the Acqua Alta! Not per se, as I just stepped on the footbridges and kept walking, but it was a great nostalgic moment anyway. My therapist wasn't that lucky this morning, and had to buy fishing boots on the way, because the water was too high even for the footbridge. I still have mine but I haven't used them in years.

Another highlight of the last couple of days was a long conversation I had with my hairdresser, where she ended up telling me she was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was 13, and she was terrified her 5-year-old daughter could have it too, because it made her school years a living hell. Amazingly enough, I managed to calm her down, made her realize if it's diagnosed very early it won't be a problem like it was for her, and then I even made her smile when I told her to get the Percy Jackson books for her daughter, since dislexia is one of the signs for a kid being a demigod. She was ecstatic at the idea. I'm not going to lie, I feel very pleased with myself. ^^

I'm still worried about this new train wreck LJ has cooked up for our friendslists. If they really do that, it'll have to be RSS readers for me, as that kind of layout would give me a headache in seconds. Let's cross our fingers it'll be at least optional. And infinite scrolling? Who even uses that? I turned it off the second I got a Tumblr account.

On real life news, my aunt is coming next monday/tuesday. She hasn't decided yet, but it's next week for sure, so I've been in a jubilant mood all day. ^^

Uh-oh. My colleague S. is supposed to come to Venice for a short holiday with her fiancée next weekend. Do you think there's a chance the Acqua Alta will have receded by then? It's the first time they come and visit Venice together and, as picturesque as the high water can be, I guess it's a nuisance to be a tourist in the city when you have only the limited walking space of the footbridges to walk on. :(

Purtroppo non posso dire così in anticipo, ma posso avvertirti due giorni prima, quando mi arriva l'eventuale sms dal comune. Se scendono le temperature la prossima settimana e arrivano i venti freddi non c'è pericolo. ^^

Aiuto, che brutta cosa! Secondo te è meglio restarsene a casa??? Si può visitare qualcosa lo stesso o i servizi di base tipo vaporetto ecc. sono sospesi? Sigh.

Allora, dipende. I vaporetti sono sospesi solo su tratte specifiche, perchè non passano sotto alcuni ponti. In tutte le arterie principali ci sono le passerelle, e a meno che i tuoi amici non abbiano qualche difficoltà di equilibrio dovrebbero bastare. Certo, il consiglio migliore è quello di comprarsi un paio di pantaloni da pescatori (quelli che coprono anche la coscia) e allora si è liberi di muoversi, anche se ovviamente più lentamente del solito.

Per dei turisti direi che si tratti comunque di una esperienza affascinante, sempre se armati di stivali. I musei e le chiese sono aperti normalmente, ci sarà un pò di casino in giro perchè c'è il 2 di Novembre e molti vengono dalla terraferma per visitare i parenti al cimitero.

Aagh! And you didn't take pictures? You never go somewhere without taking pictures. Poor submerged Venice is something otherworldly to see. I mean, it's otherworldly even without the water, but that just puts the seal on it.

You're right! XD In my defense, I was scared even of taking my cellphone out, because it's kind of an acrobatic experience to walk on the footbridge, and if I drop something as valuable as my camera in the salty water I will never forgive myself!

Ah, che bei ricordi di quando sono mezzo annegata durante l'acqua alta del 1 dicembre 2008... 1,58 sul medio mare -.- le passerelle galleggiavano, erano troppo basse!

L'unico vantaggio dell'acqua alta è saltare scuola. Visto che ormai sono vecchiotta e non vado più a scuola, la trovo solo una gran scocciatura. Cinque secondi di attacco di nostalgia per quando ero bambina, e 25 minuti a fare l'equilibrista sulle passerelle.
